Which would you rather be? Schools are dynamic, ever-changing environments which often means we are fire-fighting. We have to react in the moment - let's face it, children can be unpredictable! This causes panic, stress and an 'on the hoof' response. But there are some areas of school life where you can be proactive and addressing staff wellbeing is one of them. Desmond Tutu said: 'There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they're falling in.' This is so true in education right now. What can you do proactively to support your staff's wellbeing and prevent them falling in the river? How can you operate from a place of preparedness, calm and peace of mind? Go upstream with the Resilient Living Programme - a meaningful and transformative toolkit to support your staff in both their professional and personal life. Knowing and understanding that their wellbeing is always with them will help them to navigate the cumulative stresses and strains of school life with resilience and avoid them reaching breaking point. Now THAT's true staff wellbeing in action! Keynote Speaker, Consultant, Trainer l Helping small and midsize organizations and schools create a trauma-informed, resilient workplace culture that ⬆️increases engagement ⬇️ decreases burnout.
Valuing well-being means supporting our teachers with reasonable work hours, setting clear expectations with students, and fostering positive interactions with parents. Here are three things that can be done to support educators, school leaders, and parents at the start of the new school year. #1 Know that you are part of a team. Thank each person for being an important part of the team supporting the students. #2 Greet each other with a smile and eye contact. A smile can go a long way in setting the stage for a new school year. #3 Create boundaries and expectations for yourself. Be sure to communicate these to parents and students. When administrators, teachers, parents, and students are aligned, we can make great strides in education together. Let's work towards a unified approach for the benefit of all! What do you do that starts out the school year supporting your wellbeing? #WellBeing #Education #SupportTeachers

Recent studies have shone a spotlight on the critical importance of #Wellbeing in Education. A 2023 WHO report revealed that 30% of adolescents globally struggle with their mental health, while teacher burnout rates have surged to 44% post-pandemic. However, schools prioritizing wellbeing have seen an increase in academic performance and a reduction in behavioral issues. These striking figures are prompting educators worldwide to shift their focus towards cultivating cultures of wellbeing. Excited to share insights from our #ARIS story at a recent workshop with lait foundation on Creating a Culture of Wellbeing in Schools. We interacted and shared best practices with 40+ educational leaders from top institutions in #Nigeria! 🇳🇬📚 🔑 Key points discussed: 1. Integrating mental health awareness and global citizenship into curricula. 2. Creating safe spaces for students to express emotions. 3. Implementing teacher wellness programs to prevent burnout. 4. Leveraging technology to achieve action plans. 🔑 Some takeaways for educators worldwide: 1. Go back to the basics- What are the needs of your community? 2. Develop Early Interventions to support the needs identified. 3. Incorporate reflection and mindfulness practices into daily routines. 4. Establish clear communication channels for students and staff to seek help. The enthusiasm and commitment of these leaders are truly inspiring and it's clear that prioritizing wellbeing is not just a trend, but a necessity for fostering resilient, thriving school communities. #Educators, what strategies have you found effective in promoting wellbeing in your schools? Integrated Mental Health Curriculum: Implement evidence-based programs like the PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) curriculum, which has shown a 32% reduction in teachers' reports of students exhibiting aggressive behavior. 2. Staff Training and Support: Provide Mental Health First Aid training to all staff. Schools that have implemented this report a 61% increase in staff confidence in recognizing and responding to mental health issues. 3. Teletherapy Services: Utilize digital platforms to increase access to mental health professionals. A study in the Journal of Technology in Behavioral Science found that teletherapy can be as effective as in-person therapy for many mental health conditions. 4. Mindfulness and Stress-Reduction Programs: Implement school-wide mindfulness practices. A 2019 study in the Journal of Child and Family Studies found that mindfulness programs in schools led to a 24% decrease in stress levels among participating students. 5. Peer Support Programs: Establish peer support networks. The Suicide Prevention Resource Center reports that peer support programs can increase help-seeking behaviors by up to 40%. Case Studies of Success Consider the success of the Healthy Schools Program in Chicago, which saw a 50% reduction in disciplinary incidents and a 27% improvement in student satisfaction scores after implementing comprehensive mental health support strategies. In Australia, the MindMatters program, a national mental health initiative for secondary schools, reported that 80% of participating schools saw improvements in student well-being and academic engagement. Call to Action As educational leaders, we have a responsibility to create environments where both students and staff can thrive mentally and emotionally. By implementing comprehensive mental health support programs, we're not just addressing immediate needs; we're investing in the long-term success of our educational system and our society. The data is clear: mental health support in schools is not a luxury; it's a necessity. It's time for every school to prioritize mental wellness alongside academic achievement. Our students' futures—and indeed, our collective future—depend on it.
