Recently we monitored a Spine surgery for intramedullary tumor resection in the conus medullaris at the level of L4-S1. We always utilize multi-modality in our Neuromonitoring and in this case, we monitored the following modalities: Free run EMG-upper limbs as the control and lower limbs MEPs for the above to monitor the anterior and lateral spinal cord SSEPs- to monitor the posterior spinal cord TOF-to monitor the level of anesthesia Stimulated EMG - using a bipolar probe to identify and safe the nerve roots at the conus medullaris Anesthesia-Tiva signals in the comments #ionm #neuromonitoring #neurophysiology #surgicalneurophysiology #neurosurgery #kenyanneurosurgeons #kenyanspinesurgeons #neuroguardneuromonitoring

🚀 Celebrating Neurosurgery Awareness Month with #NaoTrac🚀 This August, we highlight the incredible contributions of neurosurgeons. We are excited to feature Dr. Jeng-Hung Guo from China Medical University Hospital. Dr. Guo is a neurosurgeon with high potential, known for his willingness to learn and adopt new technologies for better patient outcomes. Specializing in cerebrovascular and minimally invasive neurosurgery, Dr. Guo is advancing the treatment of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). ICH surgery involves removing blood clots from the brain to alleviate pressure and prevent further damage. Traditionally, smaller hematomas (<30ml) were managed conservatively due to lower mortality rates and other criteria such as patient stability and clot location. However, Dr. Guo facilitates NaoTrac, a surgical navigation robot, for its fast patient registration, precision, and minimally invasive approach. This significantly enhances the accuracy and efficiency of hematoma aspiration. For patients with blood clots under 30ml, conservative treatment is often recommended, such as waiting for the clot to be reabsorbed naturally. Yet, with NaoTrac, even smaller clots can be managed surgically with improved outcomes. NaoTrac's precision and minimally invasive technique lead to faster recovery, reduced inflammation, and better overall functional outcomes for patients with small-volume hematomas. Here is a patient interview benefiting from this kind of treatment with ICH surgery: https://lnkd.in/gMQ_Qysy? Let’s celebrate #NeurosurgeryAwarenessMonth by highlighting the important work of #neurosurgeons. Join us in spreading awareness and supporting the field by sharing information and resources. Together, we can help others understand its significance and impact on lives. https://ow.ly/aqwF50SPiaf Learn more about NaoTrac and Dr. Guo's work: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g5UizZ88 #Neurosurgery #NaoTrac #MedicalInnovation #Healthcare #SurgicalRobotics #NeurosurgicalNavigation #AANS2025 #AANS #NeurosurgeryAwareness #NeurosurgeryMonth #NeurosurgeryEducation #NeurosurgicalResearch #BrainHealth #BrainNavi #NaoTrac #neurosurgery

We would like to highlight the recently published article in the "Journal of Clinical Medicine". TITLE: Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring in Neurosurgery #DSMC AUTHORS: Prof. Domenico La Torre (Neurosurgery) Prof. Angelo Lavano (Neurosurgery) Prof. Federico Longhini (Anesthesiology) Dr. Attilio Della Torre (RTD/A – Neurosurgery) Abstract Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) is a crucial advancement in neurosurgery, enhancing procedural safety and precision. This technique involves continuous real-time assessment of neurophysiological signals, aiding surgeons in timely interventions to protect neural structures. In addition to inherent limitations, IONM necessitates a detailed anesthetic plan for accurate signal recording. Given the growing importance of IONM in neurosurgery, we conducted a narrative review including the most relevant studies about the modalities and their application in different fields of neurosurgery. In particular, this review provides insights for all physicians and healthcare professionals unfamiliar with IONM, elucidating commonly used techniques in neurosurgery. In particular, it discusses the roles of IONM in various neurosurgical settings such as tumoral brain resection, neurovascular surgery, epilepsy surgery, spinal surgery, and peripheral nerve surgery. Furthermore, it offers an overview of the anesthesiologic strategies and limitations of techniques essential for the effective implementation of IONM. #Medicine #Neurosurgery

NEW FREE CONTENT on MedOne Neurosurgery! 👇 Learn more about management approaches for intraoperative durotomies. 📃Durotomies are intraoperative complications that can significantly impact a patient’s postoperative recovery and are difficult to repair during minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS). 🤕Symptoms of a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak include positional headaches, dizziness, and visual impairment, but consequences may be as severe as the formation of a subdural hematoma or hygroma due to intracranial hypotension. 📊Although reportedly less frequent than in open procedures, dural tears occur in up to 1.6 to 6.6% of minimally invasive spine surgeries. However, primary dural closure in these cases can be challenging given the narrow surgical working area. Dr. Dilip Mohan, Senior Consultant - Neurosurgery at Sakra World Hospital, shares insights on surgical intervention for stroke treatment. While strokes are typically managed with blood thinners or clot-dissolving procedures, certain cases require surgery. In cases of ischemic stroke, Carotid Endarterectomy may be performed to remove plaque from carotid arteries, enhancing blood flow to the brain and lowering future stroke risk. For haemorrhagic strokes, involving bleeding in the brain, surgical intervention may be necessary to control the bleeding. Watch the full video for detailed insights on these procedures and learn when it’s critical to seek hospital care. 👨🏻⚕️In neurosurgery, the number of surgeries performed in a day can vary greatly depending on several factors. It’s not just about how many operations can be completed but also about the quality of care provided. Factors like the competence of the support staff, the resources available at the hospital, and the complexity of each case all play crucial roles.🚀 One particularly intense day stands out in my career. I was involved in eight surgeries, starting at 7 AM and concluding with the final patient being transferred to the ICU at 9:30 PM. This marathon day of surgeries wasn't a display of endurance but a testament to the collaboration and efficiency of the entire medical team.🏥 Each case presented its own unique challenges, requiring careful planning and execution. The support staff's skill and the hospital's resources were instrumental in handling the diverse diagnoses and surgical needs of our patients. This experience underscored the importance of a well-coordinated team and robust infrastructure in achieving successful surgical outcomes.🩺 Neurosurgery is less about the sheer number of operations and more about the precision and care taken in each procedure. That day was a remarkable example of teamwork and dedication in the high-stakes world of neurosurgery.👨🏻⚕️✨ #neurosurgeon #surgery #neurosurgical #neurosurgeryconnect #drsiddharthgautam #mumbai
