We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Indonesian carrier PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin) to develop a new submarine cable system connecting Singapore and Batam, Indonesia, under the newly formed INSICA (Indonesia Singapore Cable System) Consortium. When operational in the fourth quarter of 2026, the 100-km INSICA cable system will support the surge in data centre telecommunications traffic between Singapore and Batam. Featuring a 24-fiber pair subsea cable and two diverse terrestrial cable paths, the INSICA cable system will offer a maximum capacity of up to 20 terabits per second per fiber pair and deliver exceptional bandwidth, seamless connectivity and robust network security. The new diverse link provided by the Consortium will enable efficient resource sharing and scalability. Seng Keat Ooi, Vice President of Digital Infrastructure & Services at Singtel, said, “Batam is emerging as a prime location for data centres due to its close proximity to Singapore. With this cable system, we’ll be able to enhance the connectivity between the countries to support the intensive, higher power density AI workloads of enterprises and cloud companies. The development of the INSICA cable system is yet another step that we’re taking in architecting a hyper-connected, digital ecosystem to serve the long-term demands of the region’s digital future and boost the regional economy.” Read more about the new submarine cable here: https://lnkd.in/gP5hBahj #partnership #submarinecable #connectivity

Today, I had the opportunity to attend the GSMA event and discuss the critical role of digital infrastructure in driving digital transformation across industries. As the global ICT leader, Ericsson sees digital infrastructure as the backbone of transforming digitalization in the nation. As we advance towards Digital Indonesia Vision 2045, embracing 5G is not just a technological upgrade but a national imperative. The lessons from 4G demonstrate how early adoption can drive transformative innovations and economic growth. 5G promises unprecedented speed, low latency, and capabilities that will revolutionize industries by enhancing productivity, efficiency, and sustainability. To unlock its full potential, we must prioritize the allocation of mid-band spectrum and fast-track deployment policies. This will position Indonesia at the forefront of the global digital economy. Ericsson remains committed to supporting this journey together with Indonesian government and operators. Let’s seize this opportunity to build a robust digital infrastructure that propels Indonesia into a leading position globally. #TeamEricsson #5G #DigitalTransformation #DigitalIndonesiaVision2045

Luminous Real Estate and Telecom: I source Layer 1-3 network capacity & computing power for clients. Background: Economist, Real Estate Development in Budapest & Tallinn, & Sales at Hibernia Atlantic.
Another super high capacity Southeast Asian cable project was announced today. It will link Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore, Philippines, and Japan. The new cable, ALPHA (Asia Link for Advanced Performance of High Speed Access), will have at least 8 fibre pairs pushing a relatively high 18 terabits per pair. Telin, the international subsidiary of Telekom Indonesia, is leading the consortium along with Korea Telekom and an unnamed Japanese partner (Softbank?). Expected RFS 1Q2027. My view is that Indonesia Telekom sees an opportunity for a third telecom hub in Southeast Asia to remedy the existing regional overdependence on Singapore and Tokyo in large part due to the exclusion of China cables from US landings. This pariah status has led to most China-US traffic being exchanged via two chokepoints, Singapore and Tokyo. This is Indonesia`s opportunity to become a subsea cable hub on par with Singapore if the country can streamline permitting and show flexibility in landing arrangements. More details available at https://lnkd.in/diyKs2WF This project just reached the Memorandum of Understanding stage so final design and vendor selection have not been finished. I forecast 2027 as RFS for ALPHA assuming the Indonesian bureaucracy cooperates #subseacables #telecomhubs #indonesia #internetinfrastructure #southeastasia

NST 18 June 2024 Singtel's regional data centre business, Nxera, has recently announced a strategic partnership with Malaysian telco TM to develop a series of data centres, starting with a large campus in Johor. Welcome to Malaysia ! This project, set to be the largest for both companies, will be located in Iskandar Puteri, just 16 km away from Singapore. The site will cater to hyperscalers, AI application providers, and enterprises, promising top-notch reliability, security, and sustainability, along with excellent connectivity both locally and internationally. The initial phase of the data centre will boast a capacity of 64 MW, with plans to scale up to 200 MW, specifically designed to support high-power density workloads with cutting-edge technologies like liquid cooling. While this partnership presents exciting opportunities for both Singtel and TM, we can't help but raise concerns about whether Malaysia will see proportionate benefits from this venture. With the substantial electricity demand that data centres require, coupled with potential government subsidies adding to the mix, it's crucial to ensure fair play for all parties involved. Will Malaysia Government have a knowledgeable, professional negotiating team in place to secure the best possible deal for Malaysia ? Unfortunately, historical precedents may suggest otherwise. It's essential for both companies to work together transparently and fairly to ensure that the benefits of this partnership are reasonably distributed. #Singtel #TM #Nxera #DataCentre #DigitalTransformation #TechPartnership #Malaysia #Singapore #Innovation #BusinessGrowth #DigitalEconomy #StrategicPartnership #DataInfrastructure #FairPlay #Negotiations #Sustainability
