Siniat’s metal framing products are a good example of “#circular products” and the closed loop usage model. End-of-life refers to the end of a product’s life cycle. In the case of building products, this stage is often the #deconstruction of the building it was installed in. According to the 2018 National Waste Report, we know that an average of 90% of the metal products produced in Australia are recycled at end-of-life by factories that produce new steel that then goes back into the loop. Siniat uses BlueScope steel with 25% #recycled content to make our products. We have also made significant progress in the reduction of the scrap we generate on site, with 50% less waste compared to 2016. All on-site waste we generate in the manufacture of our metal products is recycled. #Circularity is one of the pillars of the Etex Road to Sustainability 2030, and an important part of our sustainability strategy. To find out more the life cycle of Sinat products and their environmental impact, download our Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for plasterboard and metal framing from our website https://lnkd.in/gTFZYcb9.

A good use of plastic waste materials is by using in building materials!
PLASTIC Recycling building material ------------------------ Plastic fine particulates along with sand, aggregate and mineral admixture has been explored to develop building materials by adopting an Inovative Rock forming process. ■ The process is cement free Shareing below a casting of concrete mix specimen incorporated with Plastic fines which after atmospheric and water curing attains about 20Mpa crushing strength on 28days. ■The Plastic particulates are embedded in rock forming silicate matrix. However more experimental work is required to optimize the process for making high strength road application concrete and also effect of plastic particulates in the reaction process and also the product durability.

Our mission: closing the loop! Cement and concrete are high-quality and much needed building materials that require a lot of energy to produce. This makes it all the more important to utilise their full potential and strengthen circularity along the entire value chain. As a next step towards our circularity and carbon reduction targets, we have now commissioned an innovative recycling plant for selective separation at the Heidelberg Materials production site near Katowice, Poland: The first-of-its-kind facility features a proprietary crushing mechanism that enables sophisticated separation and sorting capabilities to fully recycle demolition concrete and substitute virgin materials in concrete production. By also recovering recycled concrete paste (RCP), our patented ReConcrete process combines circularity with decarbonisation. RCP can then be used as an alternative raw material in clinker production or as an alternative cementitious material. In addition, it can absorb and permanently bind CO₂. Learn more about ReConcrete and our circular approach in the video:

We make it happen again: Circularity in action... A recent study by Imperial College London stressed the potential of Recycled Concrete Paste (RCP). Of the 10 technologies studied, the researchers found that recycled cement paste made from demolished concrete was the most effective and economical. At Heidelberg Materials, we are putting this from theory into practice right now with our new plant for selective separation near Katowice, Poland. What I find particularly exciting: The plant can process up to 100 tonnes of demolished concrete per hour. The unique crushing mechanism enables sophisticated separation and sorting capabilities obtaining aggregates and Recycled Concrete Paste of the highest quality. This makes us the first company in the industry to introduce this unique separation process at such a scale and quality. #HeidelbergMaterials #Sustainability #Innovation #Recycling

Over 3 billion tonnes of construction and demolition waste are produced globally every year, and how we deal with it is changing. As part of our signature GREENKEY SOLUTIONS, S/CRETE technology makes possible concrete recycling on an industrial scale. With its unique selective grinding technology, we can efficiently separate and reuse the components of waste concrete to reduce energy dependency and water consumption while minimizing carbon emissions. This patented process brings a new opportunity to achieve a truly circular economy in the cement industry. Our goal for selective concrete recycling is outlined in detail in this technical article, available for download here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dfTmyvv4 #concreterecycling #sustainableconstruction #circularity #cementinnovation Article by Dr. Martin Reformat & André Trümer published in Global Cement Magazine, September 2024 issue.
