Recap from Hotelex Shanghai 2024 | Swipe and Read! Hotelex Shanghai is one of the biggest #coffee events in #China. At the show, specifically, we hosted many cuppings with our partners — seasoned and new — and welcomed many visitors to our booth, where we presented them with 23 differently brewed coffees from #Yemen and #Colombia. Their honesty and exuberance helped us identify the coffees that’ll do well in this market; and has left us determined to advise our partners better to meet these growing, ever-changing, consumer needs. Present at the event were Sky Xu, Head of Operations - China, and Jun Pyo Lee, Business Development Manager - Asia. Their reflections below 👇🏻 “China has an innovative playing field in the coffee market, but the economic downturns in the preceding year saw a mild dip in consumption. Yet this market has pivoted and persisted. Many partners have diversified their offerings, sales mechanisms and activations, and new cafe expansions are happening with the help of externally raised capital. We have also been witnessing an influx of younger workforce that focuses on the specifics of coffee, one that participates in competitions leveraging the power of social media to retain attention. A large part of this response can be attributed to the sheer passion that China feels towards coffee.” At Qima, we have always seen tremendous potential in China’s coffee market. And the curve of the joyride (and lessons!) will only go up from here.

[SWITZERLAND MEETS HONG KONG] A story over a cup of coffee ☕ While its historic relationship with tea might spring to mind first, Hong Kong has a vibrant and diverse coffee culture. Hong Kong is well known for its dynamic mix of Western and Eastern cultures – yuenyeung 鴛鴦 ( a mix of coffee and tea) is a perfect example of how these two cultures are blended together. Depending on the area and target groups cafes can vary from more convenience-focused quick take-away places to minimalistic and photogenic art spaces, wanting the customers to spend more time and to enjoy the atmosphere. With continuing innovation, the city is now home to a number of unique signature beverages such as espresso tonic or dirty coffee, award-winning baristas, and an increasingly experimental café scene that will not stop anytime soon. Since the country is a blend of European cultures – German, French, and Italian – to this day, the coffee scene in Switzerland is quite diverse. The Swiss are among the biggest consumers of coffee on the planet, almost three-quarters of the world’s coffee trade happens in Switzerland. Switzerland also has its fair share of coffee plantations, with some of the best blends sourced from local farms such as Parpan, St. Antonigo, and Briauna. A visit to these farms offers a unique opportunity to learn more about coffee cultivation, processing, and storage techniques, and getting to taste the freshest brews directly from the source. 💡 Did you know that Hong Kong has its own local coffee? 🍇 Australian Wine Thrives in Vietnam's Booming Market 🥂 Aussie wines are making a significant impact in Vietnam, with sales reaching AUD 11.5 million last year—doubling figures from two years prior. This surge comes amid enhanced bilateral relations and growing recognition of Australian products in Vietnam. 🌏 At the South Australia Wine Connect 2024 gala in Hanoi, Australian Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski highlighted the deepening ties between the two countries, which have set the stage for expanded wine trade opportunities. 📈 The Vietnamese wine market, valued at $347.10 million in 2022, is expected to nearly double by 2030, reaching $692.27 million. This growth trajectory is fueled by rising disposable incomes and a robust retail sector that saw a nearly 20% increase in 2022. 🍷 The SA Wine Connect event extended to Ho Chi Minh City, featuring Master Class wine-tasting sessions that attracted hundreds of wholesalers and retailers. Renowned Australian wineries like Turkey Flat, First Drop, and Sorby Adams showcased their products, targeting sophisticated consumers aged 25 and above. 📚 These educational initiatives are proving crucial for Vietnamese wine enthusiasts, particularly those between 25 and 40 years old, who are increasingly seeking premium experiences. The success of these events has been amplified by significant social media buzz, underlining the growing importance of Vietnam as a key market for international wine exports. #WineIndustry #AustralianWine #MarketExpansion #Vietnam #CulturalExchange #BusinessGrowth
