As a P.Ed student since the Paralympics started, this has always been my question: Why are we not creating the same hype as the Olympics? Why aren’t we celebrating our Indian Paralympic champions enough? While the Paralympic Games showcase incredible talent, determination, and resilience, the achievements of our Indian Paralympians often go unnoticed. Athletes like Devendra Jhajharia, Mariyappan Thangavelu, and Avani Lekhara have brought immense pride to the nation with their world-class performances. Yet, they rarely receive the recognition they deserve in mainstream media. Why is this the case? Maybe it’s due to the media’s overwhelming focus on popular sports, or societal perceptions that undervalue the accomplishments of athletes with disabilities. But these athletes, who break barriers and push human limits, deserve our attention, respect, and celebration. Let’s change the narrative. Let’s honour their dedication and shine a brighter light on their victories. Share their stories, follow their journeys, and give them the recognition they have earned. #Paralympics #IndianAthletes #InclusionMatters #CelebratingChampions #SportsForAll #Inspiration Watch this video of an athlete from the Paralympics -- https://lnkd.in/gNRSzwTq

Firstly, the Paralympic Games should be hosted before the Olympic Games. Secondly, why are we not talking about how strong the Indian Paralympic contingent is, they are making medals rain for us! Thirdly, how are these human beings so incredible? 😭 #paralympics2024 #teamIndia #proudindian

“The Magic of the Paralympics: Perseverance and Inspiration” The Paralympics are special for several reasons and since I was gifted with living with a paraplegic at an early age, it became a must see on my sports calendar. For full context please read earlier post: ’The Rare Gift of Living with a Paraplegic’. Here are just a few reasons why you might want to watch too: 1. Showcase of Human Resilience: The games highlight the extraordinary achievements of athletes who overcome physical and sometimes severe disabilities. They demonstrate the indomitable will and spirit of the human condition. 2. Promoting Inclusion: The Paralympics play a crucial role in promoting inclusivity and changing perceptions about disability. They offer a platform to challenge stereotypes and advocate for equal opportunities. 3. High Level of Competition: Athletes at the Paralympics compete at incredibly high levels, often breaking records and setting new standards in their sports, just like in the Olympics. 4. Innovation and Adaptation: The sports are often adapted to fit the needs of the athletes, showcasing innovative equipment and modifications that make the sports accessible to those with disabilities. If you are new to the Paralympics and aren’t sure where to start, I recommend a few sports to watch. At the Paris 2024 Paralympics, several athletes delivered exceptional performances and I do highlight a few of these amazing athletes. The viewership is also the highest it’s been To read the full article “The Magic of the Paralympics: Perseverance and Inspiration”please click here: https://lnkd.in/gxPYy8bx Watch the exciting highlights of Blind Football, day 10, of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: https://lnkd.in/gVpkgXDF 1. #Paralympics 2. #Inspiration 3. #Perseverance 4. #HumanSpirit 5. #AdaptiveSports 6. #AthleteInspiration 7. #BreakingBarriers 8. #InclusionMatters 9. #ParalympicHeroes 10. #SportsForAll 11. #Unstoppable 12. #ChampionMindset 13. #Olympics International Olympic Committee – IOC Special Olympics LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games

Another #Olympics may be done and dusted....Tom Cruise has abseiled into the Stade de France (Sorry Tom you're not a patch on Queen Elizabeth parachuting but nice try!). But the spirit of competition and excellence is far from over. 28th August marks the start of the #Paralympic Games - highlighting the incredible abilities of #disabled athletes. I am am blown away by that fact that 24 athletes competing in this year's Paralympics have used Back Up's services at some point in their journey to #Paris! The Paralympics are not just a sports event; they are a global movement that challenges perceptions, breaks down barriers, and fosters inclusivity. These athletes train with the same intensity and determination as their Olympic counterparts, often facing additional hurdles both on and off the field. Supporting the Paralympics also means advocating for greater visibility and accessibility in all aspects of life. It’s an opportunity for businesses, communities, and individuals to commit to creating environments where everyone can thrive. As the Paralympic Games begin, let’s rally behind these incredible athletes, celebrate their victories, and ensure their stories are told with the same enthusiasm and respect that we have shown the Olympians. The journey of excellence continues, and it is one that everyone should be a part of. 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 470 Crores 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐬: 6 🙂 . 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 74 Crores 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐬: 27 (and counting) 🔥 I don't understand why players are focusing on politics instead of focusing on preparation and games (related to recent incidents). 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: The Indian Paralympics team is just 3 medals away from a remarkable milestone of 30 medals in a Paralympics event. This is the best performance of our Paralympic team ever in a Paralympic event.🔥. All the best to the team for upcoming games. 🥇 🥈 🥉 𝐏𝐒: I didn't know about this thing at first, but when I got to know I couldn't resist posting about it here.

HELP Required... Yes, I need help to decipher the outcome of 2 biggest sporting events #Olympics 2024 & #paralympics 2024 in #Paris Olympics we (India) sent a contingent of 117 athletes & we got 6 medals Paralympics we have sent a contingent of 84 athletes & we are already at 20 medals as of today morning. It translates to 0.05 Medal/athlete in olympics & a staggering 0.24 medal/athlete in Paralympics...almost 4.8 times. Why such a huge difference? There is no doubt that our athletes were the best & are equally passionate about the sport they are playing. So why such a huge difference in results? One potential reason I could think of is LACK of #Expectations Yes, you read it right...given the situation of our Paralympic athletes, expectations from them were perhaps lower nor presumably they have this humongous pressure of doing well in life. Not because they aren't capable (they are super capable & they have proved it) but because people like me think what best they can do. We don't give them a chance & that's a harsh truth, we may want to disagree with but it's reality. What it effectively means is that #pressure does not necessarily bring the best out of you. You have to be mindful of building both pressure & expectation only to an extent to enhance performance. Please help me find more reasons... Since 1960, the Paralympic Games have challenged notions of disability, and what began as a movement with just 400 athletes, has grown to 4,400 across 22 sports. Outstanding performances from Paralympians like Natalie du Toit, the first amputee swimmer to compete in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Abdellatif Baka, a visually impaired runner who not only broke the 1500m T13 world record, but ran it 1.71 seconds faster than the Olympic gold medallist that same year, help prove to the world that firsts go beyond the podium.
