Sir Robert McAlpine teamed up with The Mayor's Fund for London to offer eight students an invaluable experience working at our London Museum project in Farringdon for a week. Alongside learning construction-specific skills, the students were encouraged to reflect on the importance of wider transferable qualities, such as communication, teamwork and organisation, to achieve shared objectives. The sessions were delivered in partnership with the Stanhope Foundation, which works with charities and businesses to help people find their first job, return to work and tackle employment issues. Alex Ward, Senior Social Value Manager at Sir Robert McAlpine, said: “The students went away with insights into all areas of construction, from engineering to sustainability, and we hope this has inspired them to pursue a future career in the industry.” 🔗 Click the link to read more and find out how we support students to enter the construction industry 👉 https://lnkd.in/eMDQnkxs #WorkExperience #Construction #Careers #SkillsGap

This case study, carried out in partnership with Buro Happold, highlights the benefits of early collaboration at the design stage and proactive engagement with the supply chain to achieve significant embodied carbon savings. Sir Robert McAlpine is currently delivering the TQA1 building for the University of Bristol, a 38,500 m2 academic facility that will house 4,600 students and 650 university staff. This is the first phase of the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus (TQEC), one of the UK’s largest city centre regeneration schemes. By working together from the outset, Sir Robert McAlpine and Buro Happold were able to integrate innovative solutions and optimise the design to reduce upfront embodied carbon by almost half. Engaging with our key supply chain partners early in the process also allowed the team to leverage their expertise and further reduce emissions, ensuring that every aspect of the project was aligned with our sustainability goals. 🔗 Read how the team collaborated to achieve emission savings of approximately 25% at the procurement stage for ready-mix concrete 👉 https://lnkd.in/ewU7aTsY #Sustainability #Collaboration #Construction #EngineeringExcellence #ConcreteZero
