Reflecting on the empowering experience at She Code Africa International Women's Day event held at Grazac Academy over the weekend! As I immerse myself in the afterglow of #SCAIWD2024, I'm compelled to share the profound lessons that have truly touched my heart. Here are some invaluable insights that have left a lasting impact: 1. Embrace a Solution-Driven Mindset: The atmosphere was charged with an electrifying energy of possibility. We were encouraged to approach challenges with a solutions-focused mindset, igniting a fire within each of us to conquer obstacles head-on. 2. Cultivate Confidence: The speakers radiated confidence, reminding us of our inherent strength and capabilities. It was a poignant reminder to stand tall in our abilities and embrace our unique contributions to the world. 3. Openness and Vulnerability: The event fostered a culture of openness and vulnerability. We were urged not to carry the weight of our struggles alone but to lean on our community for support and guidance. Sharing our vulnerabilities became a source of strength and connection. 4. Embrace Failure: "Don't delay your failure; fail fast and move forward." These words echoed in my mind long after the event ended. The idea of embracing failure as a stepping stone to success was liberating. It gave me the courage to take risks and venture into the unknown with resilience. 5. Celebrate Progress: The importance of sharing our progress was emphasized throughout the event. It's not just about the end result but the journey itself. By putting our work out there, we inspire others and create a ripple effect of empowerment. 6. Resilience in the Face of Criticism: Criticism was reframed as a catalyst for growth rather than a roadblock. Instead of letting criticism deter us, we were encouraged to use it as fuel to refine our skills and perspectives. Attending this event was not just about celebrating International Women's Day; it was a soul-stirring journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and sisterhood. The collective spirit of resilience, courage, and unwavering determination left an indelible mark on my heart. Hello dear Globalization Community! What is a Globalization Community? It means... you are in a position to help, support, lead, ideate, manage, upgrade, evolve a company, a solution, a product, an institution, etc. to go global. That is going beyond your own country, or even region (see for example the cases of Canada, Kenya, India, Luxembourg, Burundi, Switzerland, USA, etc. where there are more than one local language). 16 years ago, we founded Women in Localization. We are the largest non-profit which studies "the how tos", the frameworks, the approaches, hears from the best simultaneously across the world, to be way ahead of the "cutting edge". International Women's Day As we commemorate International Women's Day 2024, it's crucial to turn our attention to the women in rural Papua New Guinea villages whose voices often go unheard. To advocate for their rights, we must prioritize initiatives that address the unique challenges they face, such as limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Empowering these women involves implementing programs that promote literacy, provide vocational training, and facilitate access to essential services. Additionally, fostering community support networks and amplifying their voices through advocacy efforts can help ensure their inclusion in decision-making processes. By recognizing the importance of diversity and empowerment across all sectors of society, we can work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable environment where every woman in Papua New Guinea, regardless of her location, can thrive. Localisation is more than a strategy for us; it’s a commitment to fostering equitable partnerships with local people. We recognise that local organisations possess invaluable knowledge and insights into their communities—knowledge that is essential for designing contextually relevant programs and fostering long-term resilience. Through strategic partnerships and capacity-building initiatives, we empower local organisations to lead and innovate. This approach not only enhances the impact of our interventions but also strengthens local organisations, promoting ownership and sustainability. As part of our project addressing technology-facilitated gender-based violence in Mexico, we’re collaborating with two incredible local, grassroots organisations - Organización Feminista Lilas - Oaxaca y Asamblea Vecinal Nos Queremos Vivas Neza - Estado de México - involved in the defense of women’s rights in the country. We are working together in two main areas: 📱Co-designing and implementing activities with the community. For example, we co-designed a digital care tool kit for young women. 🚀Strengthening their in-house capacity through a series of workshops facilitated by MAGENTA and Local Subject Matter Experts. #localisation #strengthening #together #collaboration

For nearly 50 years, we’ve built a community of Ireland’s most highly respected and influential women, and now, in partnership with The Shona Project, we’re looking to the future and to how to support the young women coming our way. The fact is, it’s not easy being a young woman in Ireland today. The Shona Project have uncovered that…  -Only 20% of teenage girls feel as though they will have the same opportunities as boys -77% of teen girls in Ireland don’t ‘feel beautiful’ -Almost 60% agree that they have worries or anxieties that nobody knows about -84% think negative thoughts about the world around them -90% have negative thoughts about themselves The Shona Project is a movement for change, in which women can all play a part in creating positive futures for the next generation. Since 2002, CSIC, the Spanish Research Council has been dedicated to understanding and addressing the challenges women face in pursuing research careers. Their evidence-based initiatives are driving us closer to achieving #genderequality in science. The Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion in research. Their action plan includes targeted policies and dialogue with research institutions, fostering collaboration and promoting a more accessible research environment for all. #womeninscience #womeininresearch
