By setting clear goals and scheduling your activities, you can ensure that you make the most of your free time. For example, you can use your Saturday for outdoor activities like hiking or cycling, and then spend your Sunday relaxing at home with a good book or movie. Alternatively, you can plan a weekend getaway with your friends or family, exploring a new city or trying out new activities. Whatever your preference, taking the time to plan ahead can help you make the most of your weekend and feel more refreshed come Monday morning. I have just got back from a wonderful skiing trip with the family so have had a little break from here (did you miss me )? 😃 We haven’t been skiing as a family of four before but one of the things I noticed is the considerable amount of detachment from 'work mode' I managed to achieve. It's always been a challenge for me but never more so than as a business owner and the feeling of beings always ‘on’! 🔛🕐 Probably a combination of the intense activity, concentration levels (I am far from an accomplished skier) and the sense of responsibility taking care of the rest of the family on the slopes (although the kids progression through the week was pretty amazing to witness). The result was being completely and utterly absorbed in what we were doing. I forgot about work entirely for a lovely blissful week! Why am I sharing this? ⁉️❓⁉️❓ Well, we talk to lots of clients about work-life balance, energy and focus and the conversation often centres on the relationship between how we detach from work, before we rest, relax, replenish and recharge, ahead of our re-engagement with work. 📴😴😄💪🏽👷🏽♀️ The more practised and resilient we are at following this cycle, the more likely we are to be able to do it successfully. What might work for us in the short bite size cycle of work breaks during the week may not work in the same way in the longer breaks at the weekends (other work patterns are available of course 😉) or when we take a longer breaks from work. 😎🌅🪂🏂🏽⛷️ The type of activity we carry out in these breaks has an impact on our levels of detachment from work and how often we may temporarily re-engage. This isn’t always a bad thing. I have had some of my best ideas lazing in the sun, looking out at the sea, with my mind finally ‘free to wander’. There is a lot of literature about the impact of deep and shallow work on our levels of work engagement, but I can’t find very much about the impact of deep and shallow detachment from work and its impact on our ability to recharge (please feel free to signpost if you know of anything). 🙏🏽📖👨🏽🎓 In any event, I come back to one of my core mantras in this space – Be Intentional. 🎯 Being aware of the level of work detachment you need in any break period, and having a diverse range of things that work for you in that context is the key to achieving the recharge you need. 💟 What do you do to help you detach from work? 🤔 Fair notice – I did get sometime to think too so be prepared for the avalanche of snow/ mountain related content in the coming weeks. It is very ‘on brand’ for us, after all! ⛰️🏔️ North Face Consulting Ltd. - Because Your People, Are Your Business #peopleandculture #worklifebalance #workforcecondition #detachmentfromwork #wellbeing #smebusiness #businessgrowth

⛷️ SKIING AS A MEDITATION? Healing power of the nature❄️⛄️ In the middle of holidays in the Slovak mountains, I could not resist grabbing my phone to write a post about recharging the batteries in nature. Coming home after a beautiful sunny day of skiing, I realized my perception shifted. Even though I am skiing from my early childhood, only now I realized which effect this beautiful sport has on me😍⛷️ It’s not anymore only about staying fit & burning calories😉. It clears my mind, forces me to be in the moment & fully focus - as each hesitation might end up rolling in the snow⛄️😉. And I felt the undisturbed connection with the nature…the peace, calm and new fresh energy☀️ Nature has a remarkable ability to reduce stress and restore our well-being🌳. Whether it's a walk in the park, skiing, a hike in the mountains, or simply spending time in our backyard, connecting with nature can be a powerful escape to the rush of modern life. My 3 tips to incorporate into your routine: 1)🌲Schedule outdoor breaks during your workday, especially if you are sitting a lot 🚲 2)👀Practice mindfulness when outside - focus on the sights, sounds, and sensations around you 👣 3)🏡Start a garden or bring plants home to enjoy calming effect of nature also indoors 🪴 What is your favorite way to connect with nature? Looking forward to hearing from you! Let's prioritize our relationship with nature for improved mental health and resilience🌻 #resilience #mentalhealthawareness #natureconnection #naturetherapy #mindfulliving

You might be able to find value-rich behaviors. These are things you do that satisfy many values at the same time. These are gold mines! If you enjoy hiking, some example values you might be able to express are nature (hiking outside), fitness (getting exercise), friendship (hiking with friends), and adventure (doing a challenging hike). What value-rich behaviors do you have? For more: meaning.blog
