  • Are you a Culture Vulture? 🦅 I often used to wonder what 'HR people' really meant when they were always talking about culture. The first part of my career was spent in operational forensics - primarily attending crime scenes to gather forensic evidence, and my experience of organisational culture evolved dramatically as I moved into management and subsequently across to L&D and then 'mainstream' HR. The lens through which we view culture is both individual and constantly changing. As a result, getting a broader view of what it means to the entire firm can be challenging. We often kick off new client engagements discussing the importance of understanding organisational culture and taking active steps to improve. Peter Drucker famously said, “Culture eats Strategy for Breakfast”. 🥐🍳 Making organisational culture a key part of your business strategy is the best way to avoid the underlying culture derailing your plans. Edgar Schein described culture in layers: ⭐visible signs and symbols ⭐espoused values displayed on your walls ⭐basic underlying beliefs that drive organisational behaviour. 🪧🔣 Understanding and developing your culture consistently across all three levels to support business objectives is a critical step in removing counterproductive behaviour – your organisational waste. 🗑️🚮 Benefits include greater mission clarity, values alignment, discretionary effort, and improved engagement, motivation and well-being, leading to increased productivity.     Thank you so much to all members and visitors who attended our Mental Health Leaders Network quarterly meeting yesterday. 😊 Our guest speaker Paul Cliff FLPI MBA MHFA facilitated a brilliant workshop on ‘Finding and Using Your Positive Intelligence’. Paul says, “By recognising and understanding the ways your mind can self-sabotage, you can harness your positive intelligence (your PQ) and build your relationships, increase your performance and improve your wellbeing.” We also took part in small group discussions and shared workplace wellbeing news and resources to help each other consider our own wellbeing and that of our colleagues in the workplace.   • We have been pulling together the people deck for a client's board meeting next week, and as always, it caused us to reflect and review the key areas we report on. Many clients have been reviewing their business planning priorities for 2024, and preparing to start their business planning activities for 2025! Yes - already! 🎯 So, I wonder - what People Analytics work for your business? 🤔 We focus on a core suite of measures that cover capacity, capability and condition, alongside monitoring progress on the projects and initiatives helping to move the needle. They say, ‘What gets measured gets done’. 📐📏 Best make sure what you measure is worth doing then! ✅ Ensuring your key people metrics are the ones that will help you understand how your people are contributing to the success of your business might not be the starting point in your annual business plan - but perhaps it should be. 📈📉📊 The people you need, their skills and overall condition (how they feel about work) will be a key determinant in whether they can drive the business forward with you! 😃🪴💗 Taking your key business objectives in turn and asking how your people contribute and what enables and hinders them is a great place to start.
