As hotel markets stabilize across Asia, shifts in Chinese travel are notable. While Chinese outbound travel is about 50-60% of pre-pandemic levels, travelers are now seeking unique experiences. Thailand anticipates close to 36M tourists this year, and Japan continues to lead in average daily rate growth. High ADR is driving revenue in markets like Japan and Thailand, where hotels are exceeding pre-COVID RevPAR. Hoteliers, particularly in investment-heavy regions like Japan, must adapt to changing demands and intense competition.

Tourism is crucial to many industries but essential to Beauty and personal care. It is interesting to look at 2024 inbound tourist numbers vs. 2019 pre pandemic. Here's a quick look at how some of the top destinations are performing compared to 2019: 1. Bangkok continues to thrive, with both leisure and business tourism pushing arrivals above 2019 levels. 2. Singapore is seeing a boost in visitors, especially with major events like the Grand Prix attracting international crowds. 3. Tokyo is bouncing back strongly, with growth in inbound tourism expected to surpass pre-pandemic numbers. 4. Seoul is making steady progress, nearing 2019 levels with increased tourism from neighbouring countries 5. Hong Kong is experiencing a resurgence, with arrivals in 2024 expected to exceed 2019 figures. 6. Kuala Lumpur has seen a strong recovery, supported by regional travel and major events. The overall trend is clear: Asia's tourism sector is back on track, and growth is set to continue throughout 2024. China is crucial for the rest of the region. Q3 2024 outbound travel of Chinese going overseas was at 80% of 2019 levels so whilst not fully recovered it is steadily increasing. #APACTourism #ChinaMarket #BeautyBrands

After a hectic week in Singapore for ITB Asia - and a hectic weekend at Legoland - I've just sent out my weekly report tracking the recovery of the SE Asian tourism industry. Key developments from the last week include: 📰 ITB Asia held in Singapore this week, with the majority of ASEAN tourism boards in full presence - and a deluge of travel trend press releases to read. 📰 Indian tourists once more in the news: Malaysia reports 800k visitors from India so far in 2024; Singapore 900k from Jan-Sep; Vietnam that visa applications via Atlys in India have surged 146% YoY; Singapore Airlines and Air India open up code sharing to 51 new destinations; and Thailand forecasts a full recovery of over 2 million Indian tourists in 2024. 📰 More forward planning from destinations as we move towards 2025, with Indonesia's new tourism minister devising a "Tourism 5.0" plan, the Philippine Hotel Industry launching its Strategy Action Plan (PHISAP) 2023-2028, and Thailand still working its "6 Countries, 1 Destination" initiative magic on ASEAN neighbours. 📰 And of course, it's back in the news: the 300 THB tourism tax, which could be implemented 6 months after sent to Cabinet approval in Jan 2025. Want the full report? Comment YES below, and I'll send you a copy via DM.
