Ten years ago today Charlotte Street Partners opened its doors 🎂 🎉 Seven months before, I had to decide whether to go to law school as planned or join the start-up journey with the brilliant Malcolm Robertson and Andrew Wilson FRSE. In the words of Robert Frost, I took the one less travelled, and it has made all the difference. My key lessons from the amazing rollercoaster: 1. Purpose, vision and values weren’t yet codified in our fledgling outfit but they could be articulated and that helped drive our work and plans when everything was a blank canvas 2. Always work for people you respect and trust - having no computer or office furniture was a strange foundation for a first job but the founding people were exceptional and that’s what mattered Sharon Higgins Chris Deerin 💪🏻 3. Have the courage to be different - from your approach to hiring people, creating your culture, and how you work for clients - especially when there are no pre-existing habits and no one is well versed in the “traditional” way to do things 4. Austin Lally taught me that adaptability and leadership are key differentiators in your working life and they became essential to CSP forging a new player in the market and testing what worked and what didn’t 5. Experience counts - Sir Angus Grossart as our chairman brought many years of know-how and cache but having him keep us in his attic with no heating for the first year was a primal but important lesson in how to run a business💰 6. Trust in talent - with no middle management I was fortunate to “be in the room” from the get go - as we grew it helped to define the culture and expectations at all levels: enabling people to be brave and stretch themselves 🚀 7. Finally, having an X-Box in your office may seem like a cool and creative start-up thing to do ~ it is NOT conducive to productivity 🫠 Bravo to the CSP team on reaching its first decade, thank you for all of the great memories - and keep going!! ♥️🏴🔥

Why I Drove 10 Hours in One Day to Attend the Compass Real Estate “Connecting the Dots” Event in NYC Last week, I made the journey to New York and back in the same day to attend the “Connecting the Dots” event at Compass HQ on Fifth Avenue—and it was 100% worth the effort. One of the standout moments was getting the chance to speak with Robert Reffkin. Watching him lead the #1 real estate company from his humble corner office was a powerful reminder of what servant leadership looks like. His ability to put agents and their success first, while leading from the front, is truly inspiring. It’s no wonder so many of us feel empowered to deliver best-in-class experiences for our clients. There’s a sense of renewed optimism in the air among agents, especially with the recent interest rate cut spurring buyer activity. The energy was contagious! And Compass is leading the charge with exciting initiatives like expanding off-market inventory, which is creating more opportunities for both buyers and sellers and further enhancing the value we provide. The networking opportunities were invaluable. I had the chance to speak with top agents like Josh Doyle in Manhattan, Edward Verdel in North New Jersey, @LisaLonuzzi and @AlysonCafiero in Staten Island, and Chris Hill on the Jersey Shore. Gaining insights from such diverse markets has deepened my understanding of how these areas interplay and how it can benefit our clients across Delaware, Maryland, DC, and Pennsylvania. This event was a powerful reminder of why Compass continues to lead in the industry and why I’m proud to be part of such an innovative, forward-thinking company. I’m excited to bring all of this knowledge and energy back to my team and our clients. #RealEstateLeadership #CompassRealEstate #ServantLeadership #NetworkingForSuccess #MarketInsights #InterestRateCut #OffMarketInventory #TopAgents #LuxuryRealEstate #BestInClassExperience #ClientFocused #RealEstateGrowth #CompassHQ

Envisioning a Reimagined Black Wall Street! Black Wall Street's history hails from a standard set of values that served as a baseline for how community members engaged with one another and within broader society. Today, the "Values" are showcased across the different BSWF communities. The Charlotte council envisions a reimagined Black Wall Street in which the following values are centered and uplifted. As we strive to rebuild and reimagine, let's center our vision around our core values. Here's how they can guide us towards a brighter future: Servant Leadership: Embracing authentic communication, we prioritize serving others and fostering inclusive growth. Trust: Building intimacy and collaboration, we create spaces where trust flourishes, driving collective prosperity. Integrity: Through transparency, accountability, and responsibility, we uphold the highest ethical standards, laying the foundation for a resilient community. Community and Collaboration: Grounded in support, love, and neighborly awareness, we unite to uplift each other and foster a thriving ecosystem. Anti-Racism: With an unwavering Anti-Racist mindset, we dismantle systemic barriers and cultivate a culture of equity and justice for all. Together, let's pave the way for a vibrant and empowered Black Wall Street, rooted in these guiding principles. #BWSF #BlackWallStreetForward #ReimaginingBlackWallStreet #CommunityFirst #EquityForAll

Earlier today we at New West End Company launched our evolved insights programme, which I am incredibly proud of, so I wanted to reflect on the journey. First of all, none of it would have been possible without the support from Paddy Gamble and Tom Rollinson from Colliers , both of whom deserve a lot of credit for the hard work into realising a truly groundbreaking insights product. Secondly, I wanted to speak of our overall vision: when we talk about the London’s West End’s success, eventually it all comes down to people who go there, who live there, who work there, who shop there. And you can’t really understand people through a single lens. No matter what anyone tells you, there is no single number or KPI, no matter how compelling, that will explain people and how they make a place thrive. It’s not just #footfall, not just #turnover, not just #dwelltime, not just sales productivity, not just sentiment, it’s all of those things together and more on top. And then you’ve got to make a sense of it all by weaving a compelling story of what it all means that will resonate with different audiences (many stories, actually). Insights is the art of telling meanigful stories, and boy we’ve got a rich story to tell! All New West End Company BID members get free access to something really amazing. https://lnkd.in/g7UK-Nym Have a look.
