Are you worried about video interviews becoming the norm? Since Covid, everyone's into video interviews, and yeah, they're handy, but they come with their own set of challenges. Here are some tips to help: 🔷Be Prepared: Make sure your camera, mic, and internet are good to go. Test them out beforehand to avoid any last-minute tech issues. 🔷Set the Scene: Find a quiet, well-lit spot with a profesh-looking background. You want to keep it professional and free of distractions. 🔷Dress Right: Put on what you'd wear to an in-person interview. It shows you're taking things seriously and boosts your confidence. 🔷Practice Makes Perfect: Do a pretend interview in front of the camera. Watch it back to work on your body language and eye contact. 🔷Know Your Stuff: Research the company, its culture , and the job you're applying for, just like you would for a face-to-face chat. 🔷Keep Some Notes Handy: Have your notes, CV, and questions nearby for backup, but don't lean on them too hard. 🔷Look Them in the Eye: Stare right into the camera to mimic eye contact and show you're actively listening 🔷Smile and Be Friendly: Don't forget to smile; aim for a friendly and warm vibe. 🔷Stay Focused: Keep your head in the game during the video chat. Listen , take time before you answer, and don't cut off the interviewer. 🔷Ask Questions: Have some smart questions ready about the job and the company. It shows you're keen and interested . 🔷Prep for Tech Hiccups: Tech might act up, so be ready. Keep the interviewer's number handy in case you need to give them a call about any tech problems. Video chats might not be the same as sitting across from someone, but with a bit of prep and the right attitude, it can feel pretty close. I hate video interviews too 😖 Don't get me wrong, I love the part where I get to: ◦ Stare at myself for 3 seconds when the 2 minute prep countdown starts ◦ Frantically thinking of what to say and how to say it ◦ Feeling like I'm running a marathon as the 1.5 minute recording time starts ◦ Getting nervous about waffling that I end up waffling ◦ Realising I didn't get to say what I really want to say ◦ Look at the "circle of death" as it says uploading ◦ Praying to God that I have another chance to re-record ◦ Cry when I realised that I don't But!! You don't have to deal with that if you are well-prepped before you hit 'Start'. 1⃣ Get your examples ready → The reason why we black out and panic is because we don't know how to showcase our skills while answering these questions → Try listing out all possible answers to the most typical questions that you can anticipate during interviews and practice them 2⃣ Use the STARR method → You might already be sick of hearing this but the STAR framework is a really powerful tool to help you stop waffling → With the additional R (reflection), you can also show that you are self-aware and always open to improvements (that's two skills ticked off with one sentence!) 3⃣ Tape a photo behind your camera → I realised how narcissistic I can be, especially when it comes to video interviews because I can't stop looking at myself. So what I do is usually tape a photo behind my camera so I can trick my brain into thinking I'm making eye contact instead of just staring into a black dot → If there's an option, I would also just close my own camera view when recording so I'm not distraction → Eye contact = confidence 4⃣ Practice → Record yourself answering these questions. Time yourself as you need to say so much in just under 2 minutes. → Ask for feedback, rewatch and practice until you can memorise your words and sound confident on what you say 5⃣ Reread your CV and job description → Seems like a no-brainer but sometimes we may forget what we applied to and which company it is for, especially if you have already applied to 50+ different companies and roles → So take a minute or two to refresh your mind on it Hopefully that helps - comment down below if you want me to break down a list of the most typical interview questions + tips on answering them 🚀 P.S: This is how I look like when I've done video interviews for 5 days straight lol #CareerAdvice #InterviewTips #HowToGuides #HiringProcess

✏ MASTER EVERY INTERVIEW (TIPS YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE HEARD BEFORE)… Let’s talk about that nerve-wracking but oh-so-important performance… Interviews! I’ll give you a backstage pass to the Dos and Don’ts – Let’s make sure you’re on the right track! The Dos: ✔ Keep Your Rhythm: A common misconception is that interviews are a solo act… they’re not! It is critical to remember that this is a duet between you and your interviewer. It should work like a good conversation – a shared back and forth! Find a good balance between the extremes of one-word answers, and sharing your life story. ✔ Ask Questions: Yes, even if you don’t actually have any. Asking questions shows you are keen to learn more, and provides an idea of what is important to you! 1-3 questions is perfect. You might want to know about the interviewer’s favourite part of working there, or what skills the best individuals in this role have, or what the company culture is like! ✔ Take Your Time: This doesn’t mean drone on about your life story… Instead, don’t be afraid to think before you speak! If you are asked a question that you do not have a ready-answer for, there is no shame in saying “that’s a good one, let me think so I can give you a proper response” or “I’m not sure, do you mind if we come back to that?”. PS if you don’t know the answer to something, just say so. The Don’ts: ❌ Showstopping Negativity: First impressions are important… Part of this performance is an analysis of your attitude. It may be a red flag if you only have all-negative things to say about the places you’ve worked, or if you seem unwilling or resistant to projects or tasks you’ve been asked to tackle. Save the theatrics for Broadway – keep the drama to yourself! ❌ Escaping the Question: You may be asked some questions that are difficult to answer, but it is better to take them head-on rather than dance around them. It can be considered evasive to avoid or ignore these questions. Yes, even when you’re asked about your biggest weakness. No, being too hardworking is not an acceptable answer. ❌ Outdated/Incomplete Documents: No one wants to see “the old version” of your resume. No one wants to talk about experience not included in your resume. This doesn’t present the best first impression… Ensure that your personal information (including home address), work experience, and certifications are up to date. Now there’s no excuses… Don’t forget, your interviewer has likely spoken to people before you, and likely has others lined up after you. Be unapologetically yourself, and no placement will ever be the wrong fit. Good luck!

Is it possible to nail an interview without prep? YES! Do I think it's a good idea (to skip prep)? NOPE! _______ I do believe there is a bit of coincidence, chance, luck, serendipity, to many things in life. Interviews will come a little easier to those who enjoy conversations, who find it easy to connect with others, who love telling stories, etc. They will certainly come easier to those who are very self-aware, who regularly check-in with themselves, who analyse and reflect on their work, who ask for (and get) feedback, who think it all through. A lot also depends on WHAT you are asked, HOW you are asked, WHO is asking... Their energy, how they make you feel (a big deal for me personally, if I'm honest - I will either feel like I'm bolting doors to who I am OR like I can comfortably, and happily, spill my life story!) Aren't we all a bit like this? (Precisely why all interviewers should be a) trained, b) decent and trustworthy people 🙃 (Or more like b, then a!) _______ If you haven't prepped and that interview is this afternoon 😳, here's what I recommend: 1) open-ended questions (like what motivates you, what you're looking for in your next role, etc,) ➡️ Think of 3 items/ different angles to it, list WHAT + WHY ("I'm motivated by autonomy and trust because...") It will help you make your answer comprehensive. 2) Competency-based question (Tell me about a time when you did this/that...) ➡️ Calm yourself and focus on the behavior/skill they are clearly asking about.. Scan for work situations where you totally demonstrated those (if you are interviewing for a role you are qualified/experienced for AND they are asking role-relevant questions, you WILL find something to share). Totally blanking? Shift your answer to a hypothetical one ("Can't think of a precise situation BUT here's what's essential to consider in that kind of context...") - they might really like your thought process!! 3) Time for YOUR questions? ➡️ Yes, YouTube might offer brilliant ideas but ask about things that are important to YOU. Your tone will be different, authenticity will be there, plus you will get insights you are seeking (they better be honest!).
