Building Teacher Leadership: I envision two items for instructional coaches’ and principals’ conscious focus: opportunity and coaching. How are you creating the opportunities for teacher leadership roles? What coaching are you providing teachers as they are learning and practicing leadership skills? As an example, leaders’ time may be better spent coaching teachers as PLC facilitators rather than facilitating those activities themselves.

On Monday The Educator released their "Most Influential Educators of 2024" list and I am very lucky to be featured on that list. The announcement came, however, at a time when I felt the least influential, after some brilliant but honest feedback that I both needed but struggled to hear. I avoided any large celebration of the award, a small post snuck in on Monday to ensure I shared the list but nothing else and on reflection I think this wrong. Wrong because individual awards should spotlight the work of the teams that support that person. If not celebrated it underrepresents the game changing work of the team at Global Village Learning who are not only creating a truly independent learning community but are catering to those who feel they have fallen outside of the education system. It is a privilege to be a part of the team and this award is as much theirs as it is mine. I appreciate the support too for ‘The Connection Curriculum’. I certainly didn’t anticipate writing a book a little over a year ago but to know it is having impact and being read and actioned all over the world is something quite special and honestly, I think reflects the need for more focus on community and less on the things that detract or add little value to the people in our schools. Time: Just 30 minutes a month for 6 interactive sessions. 2. Sessions: Students will attend a monthly session at the Carlson School of Management (mentors are not required to attend).
