Ok. WHO is making these CeraVe Ads? My wife and I went to see The Long Game yesterday. In the middle of the previews, they ran this ad. Augusta Daley and I were 100% fooled. We both belly-laughed when the lotion reveal came at the end. After their Superbowl commercial with Michael Cera, it's obvious that whoever heads up marketing over there seriously knows what's up. Here's why this works: 🎭 It's subtle until it's not. It hooks you with all of the ROM COM trailer tropes. You don't realize it's an ad until it slams you hard with the "you're in love with a bottle of lotion" line. 😯 It's radically unexpected. CeraVe is a lame brand. Up till now, it's been a classic medical brand doing very boring "hawking the experts" medical ad bs. Doing the unexpended is key to the attention economy, so they switched it up hard, which added to the surprise factor. 🤣 It's entertaining in its own right. The best ads don't start with product pain points and benefits. They start with entertainment.
