🚀 A moonshot. Can he truly raise over a trillion dollars? That's the question on everyone's mind following a recent announcement from Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, about his ambitious plan to potentially secure trillions of dollars in funding to reshape the global chip-manufacturing industry. Altman has reportedly met with several investors including leaders from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and representatives from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC). Speculation even suggests that Altman might receive backing from the United States government to support his ambitious vision. 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁? Well, the answer lies in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. TSMC, the largest semiconductor manufacturer, operates from Taiwan, a region facing geopolitical tensions due to the ongoing rivalry between China and the US. Semiconductors play a vital role in developing the GPUs required to train and operate large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and Gemini. Altman's proposal for US-based chip-manufacturing could potentially offer stability and control over the semiconductor industry. This, in turn, would stabilize the future of the AI industry.
