[💰 Investment] Saint-Gobain prioritizes the decarbonization of industries and takes proactive steps to achieve this goal. As part of our dedication, we have made investments in startups focusing on decarbonizing the cement sector. Most recently, Saint-Gobain Construction Chemicals facilitated an investment in Fortera, a startup based in the United States. 🌎 Fortera specializes in carbon-to-value technology, which converts kiln emissions into a cement-like material, effectively reducing carbon emissions through manufacturing facility upgrades. 🔬 We're thrilled about this investment as it will enable Saint-Gobain to develop expertise in manufacturing additives tailored to the new chemistries of decarbonized cement. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eBaEUi3M #investment #corporateventure #decarbonization #emissions #manufacturing #additives #carbontovaluetech #carbon

We’re proud to share our participation in the Series C funding round for advanced materials manufacturer Fortera, whose technology is paving a pathway to zero C02 cement production. #Concrete and #cement are foundational elements of our #BuiltEnvironment, but their contributions to global emissions are similarly substantial. Cement production alone represents 8% of total CO2 emissions globally. Unlike traditional cement manufacturing methods, which emit almost a ton of CO2 for every ton of useable product, Fortera’s proprietary ReCarb technology intercepts carbon dioxide exhaust from the kilns where cement is made and routes it back in to make lower-carbon cement. This unique tech is the result of over 100,000 hours of research and development, supported by more than 100 issued and pending global patents and over a decade of real-world product testing. And, crucially, it’s a turnkey, bolt-on #decarbonisation solution that integrates into existing cement plant infrastructures. In the words of Wollemi Director Natalie Volpe, “Fortera does what previous green cement technologies have failed to do—it works with cement companies to provide an accessible solution to a cleaner industry. The compatibility with today’s ecosystem makes us confident that Fortera’s process is the most effective technology to decarbonise cement and achieve meaningful climate impact more quickly.” This US$85m funding round will accelerate the commercialisation, scaling and deployment of Fortera’s technology. Wollemi is delighted to be investing alongside Temasek, Khosla Ventures, NOVA by Saint-Gobain, Presidio Ventures and Alumni Ventures, and bringing both capital and specialist expertise in financing next generation infrastructure projects to support the development of Fortera’s future plants. Speira invests NOK 414 million in a new furnace for recycled material! "This investment secures a large number of jobs in Holmestrand for the foreseeable future. The old furnace has been in operation for 50 years and the new one is expected to last at least another 50 years. This is very good news," explains Jon Gaasholt, plant manager at Speira Holmestrand. With the new furnace, we will be able to process an additional 22,000 tons of scrap per year. This means that about half of the site's production will be based on recycled scrap. This will reduce the carbon footprint of the Holmestrand operations by 150,000 tons of CO2. The furnace will also reduce NOx emissions and odors from the site. The extensive project to install the new furnace is expected to be completed by summer 2026. #redefinethelimits #inspeiradbyaluminium
