❗ New analysis on freight transport and logistics in national climate strategies SLOCAT Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport and Kuehne Foundation Climate Action assessed the content of Nationally Determined Contributions and Long-Term Strategies for anything related to freight transport, logistics and supply chains. #COP29 #Climate #Freight Key findings: - Too few NDCs include freight transport targets. - NDCs overlook freight transport modes, such as trucks, rail and inland navigation. - Freight transport and logistics are not sufficiently addressed in the NDCs’ and LTS’ mitigation measures. - The adaptation to climate change and the resilience of freight transport are almost ignored in NDCs. - While transport electrification is increasingly featured, references to freight transport are scarce. - A strong push to renewable energy in transport is needed in order to support decarbonisation. - Missing: A balanced approach on sustainable, low-carbon freight transport and logistics. They create green jobs, scale up low-carbon technologies, and support sustainable value chains. However, 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀. 📊 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 A recent analysis by SLOCAT Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport, in cooperation with the Kühne Climate Center, highlights 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗮𝗽𝘀 in how freight transport and logistics are addressed within Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Strategies (LTS). 🌍 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 To bridge this gap, the next round of NDCs and new LTS 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 within the Avoid-Shift-Improve framework.
