Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is essential for achieving net zero, and eventually net negative, global greenhouse gas emissions to avoid dangerous climate change. CCS technologies capture and permanently store carbon dioxide emissions that would otherwise add to the accumulated total in the atmosphere and oceans. By avoiding, and eventually reducing, this carbon dioxide accumulation, CCS addresses the root cause of global warming, making it a vital tool in our fight against climate change. In this public webinar, Professor Jon Gibbins from the University of Sheffield will be providing an overview of CCS to deliver net zero greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change, including experiences and insights from 45 years working in energy and CCS, and thoughts on the future. Committed since February 2023 to the SBTi trajectory of contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Group VIVESCIA and all its companies have put climate challenge at the heart of their priority issues as part of their sustainable development strategies: - Scopes 1 and 2: ↘ of 42% of GHG emissions in absolute terms within its scope of direct responsibility - Scope 3: ↘ of 29% of absolute GHG emissions in its indirect scope This certification confirms that our greenhouse gas emission reduction roadmap aligns with the latest climate science needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, specifically limiting global warming to 1.5°C. With this certification in hand, Délifrance’s focus will be on achieving the targets set and continue to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of our emission reduction strategies.

There is overwhelming scientific consensus that carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is necessary to achieving our collective goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-Industrial levels. The 10 warmest years since 1850 have all occurred in this past decade, with 2023 being the warmest on record. In order to combat this trend and meet global climate targets, we need to reduce the total amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is where CDR comes into play. 📣 This November is all about #climatechange and #COP28. The study published in Nature Climate Change on the Remaining Carbon Budget is flooding the news headlines this week. Original is here ▶ https://lnkd.in/egyYhXBs The Remaining Carbon Budget, or RCB, is the net amount of #carbon dioxide  WE-humans can emit without exceeding a chosen global warming limit. The study set the #carbon budget at 250 billion metric tons, which looks like it will run out early in 2029. I was the editor of this paper for a while, and I have to admit that I am not very enthusiastic about the study because I am not entirely convinced that this study presents super surprising findings ☹ As Glen Peters (CICERO, Norway) said, "The carbon budget is so small that it's almost losing meaning." He also emphasized that the Remaining Carbon Budget for 1.5°C is now smaller because we have not reduced emissions in three years. 👎 So, how about we stop focusing on the shrinking carbon budget and 2029 deadline and finally put our knowledge and skills to work and scale up #climatesolutions to reduce our emissions?

Key messages from our latest report: (1) “net zero by 2050” has a very low likelihood of limiting warming to 1.5C (2) we should have achieved net zero 10-20 years ago, but still have a high likelihood of limiting warming to 1.5C if net zero is achieved soon.
