💡 What is the Transport Decarbonisation Index (TDI) and how can it support policymakers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)? 🌱 The TDI will be instrumental for policymakers in developing targeted emission reduction actions and supporting LMICs in fulfilling their climate pledges, with an ultimate goal of achieving net zero by 2050 to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. 📝 Beyond diagnosing decarbonisation efforts, the TDI also serves as a progress tracker, indicating whether more stringent measures may be necessary in the future. 🔖 Read the State-of-Knowledge Report by SLOCAT Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport and Urban Electric Mobility Initiative (UEMI) developed as a part of the High Volume Transport Applied Research's programme ➡️ https://shorturl.at/iKw53

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is essential for achieving net zero, and eventually net negative, global greenhouse gas emissions to avoid dangerous climate change. CCS technologies capture and permanently store carbon dioxide emissions that would otherwise add to the accumulated total in the atmosphere and oceans. By avoiding, and eventually reducing, this carbon dioxide accumulation, CCS addresses the root cause of global warming, making it a vital tool in our fight against climate change. In this public webinar, Professor Jon Gibbins from the University of Sheffield will be providing an overview of CCS to deliver net zero greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change, including experiences and insights from 45 years working in energy and CCS, and thoughts on the future. To limit global warming to 1.5°C, global emissions must decrease by around 7% annually until 2030. Learn more from the World Economic Forum’s whitepaper, ‘The State of Climate Action: Major Course Correction Needed from +1.5% to −7% Annual Emissions’: https://ow.ly/77Bv50Qqvyc Most of the world’s leading companies and institutions realize now that their license to do business is severely threatened by climate change and loss of ecosystem function. We are very happy to announce that Group VIVESCIA’s 2030 climate objectives have been certified by the Science Based Targets Initiative, and Délifrance is proud to contribute to the Group climate trajectories! Committed since February 2023 to the SBTi trajectory of contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Group VIVESCIA and all its companies have put climate challenge at the heart of their priority issues as part of their sustainable development strategies: - Scopes 1 and 2: ↘ of 42% of GHG emissions in absolute terms within its scope of direct responsibility - Scope 3: ↘ of 29% of absolute GHG emissions in its indirect scope This certification confirms that our greenhouse gas emission reduction roadmap aligns with the latest climate science needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, specifically limiting global warming to 1.5°C. With this certification in hand, Délifrance’s focus will be on achieving the targets set and continue to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of our emission reduction strategies.

There is overwhelming scientific consensus that carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is necessary to achieving our collective goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-Industrial levels. The 10 warmest years since 1850 have all occurred in this past decade, with 2023 being the warmest on record. In order to combat this trend and meet global climate targets, we need to reduce the total amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is where CDR comes into play. But what exactly is CDR and how can it meaningfully help us to address climate change? 📣 This November is all about #climatechange and #COP28. The study published in Nature Climate Change on the Remaining Carbon Budget is flooding the news headlines this week. Original is here ▶ https://lnkd.in/egyYhXBs The Remaining Carbon Budget, or RCB, is the net amount of #carbon dioxide WE-humans can emit without exceeding a chosen global warming limit. The study set the #carbon budget at 250 billion metric tons, which looks like it will run out early in 2029. I was the editor of this paper for a while, and I have to admit that I am not very enthusiastic about the study because I am not entirely convinced that this study presents super surprising findings ☹ As Glen Peters (CICERO, Norway) said, "The carbon budget is so small that it's almost losing meaning." He also emphasized that the Remaining Carbon Budget for 1.5°C is now smaller because we have not reduced emissions in three years. 👎 So, how about we stop focusing on the shrinking carbon budget and 2029 deadline and finally put our knowledge and skills to work and scale up #climatesolutions to reduce our emissions?

Today marks the 1st day of the highly awaited #COP28, bringing with it hopes and actions to evaluate and advance climate goals and plans. Gulf Cryo will participate in several #global #dialogues on climate change solutions with a great focus on 2 of our core #molecules, CO2 and H2, as they lie in the center of the climate crisis solutions. #CO2 is the main cause of global warming; how to capture it and create value out of the recovered CO2 is our field of expertise. As for #H2, the new alternative energy source, Gulf Cryo is advancing in a transitional hybrid solution to green existing rolling assets. Join the conversation, and make a change. Key messages from our latest report: (1) “net zero by 2050” has a very low likelihood of limiting warming to 1.5C (2) we should have achieved net zero 10-20 years ago, but still have a high likelihood of limiting warming to 1.5C if net zero is achieved soon. We hope this report can shift the conventional narrative on what is needed to meet the Paris commitment to keep warming below 1.5C. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gA8FRhXX

The scientific consensus is clear: human activities, primarily through greenhouse gas emissions, have caused global warming, leading to severe risks for health, infrastructure, and ecosystems. Limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C, as outlined in the Paris Agreement, is crucial to avoid catastrophic impacts. Achieving net zero emissions by 2050 is essential, requiring immediate and substantial reductions in fossil fuel use. Both mitigation and adaptation are necessary: we must reduce emissions to prevent further damage while adapting to the impacts already in motion. This dual approach is vital for a sustainable and resilient future. #ClimateAction #NetZero2050 #ParisAgreement #GlobalWarming #SustainableFuture #ClimateChange #MitigationAndAdaptation #GreenEnergy #ReduceEmissions #SaveOurPlanet #ClimateCrisis https://lnkd.in/eEE9gbQV
