Are you aware that every new vehicle model sold in Europe must have a #DriverMonitoring System (#DMS) installed? 🚙🚌🚚 The European Union's General Safety Regulation (#GSR) is ushering in a major shift in #automotivesafety. This regulation mandates that all 18 million new cars put on the European market each year must eventually be equipped with Advanced Driver Distraction Warning (#ADDW) systems to detect #driverdistraction. 🔍⚠️ The goal? To save over 25,000 lives and prevent 140,000 serious injuries by 2038 by cracking down on accidents caused by human error behind the wheel. The GSR will in some way affect all vehicle manufacturers and the entire automotive industry in Europe. But the details can sometimes be complex, requiring time and effort to fully understand. 📖 For a crash course on the GSR, DDAW and ADDW systems, start here with the first part of our blog series: https://hubs.ly/Q02HF21y0

Recent analysis by The Times on road safety and older drivers underscores the urgent need for advanced vehicle safety technologies. Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems have proven highly effective in reducing front-to-rear crashes and mitigating impact severity. According to Insurance Institute for Highway Safety / Highway Loss Data Institute vehicles equipped with AEB have seen a 50% reduction in front-to-rear incidents and a 24% reduction in third-party injury claims. As vehicle manufacturers continue implementing and refining AEB, it holds immense potential to enhance safety for drivers of all ages. At Thatcham Research, the UK's automotive risk intelligence company, we commend automakers for their commitment to AEB adoption and development, and making our roads significantly safer for everyone. #vehiclesafety #aeb #technology #automotive #safety

ICYMI: Changes are coming to the state’s Vehicle Safety Inspection Program and the way you register your vehicle in 2025. Non-commercial vehicles will no longer need a vehicle safety inspection prior to registration. A select number of counties will still require emissions tests, which drivers will need to complete prior to their vehicle registration. More at https://bit.ly/3XwDYZG.

Major changes to London's Direct Vision Standard are planned to come into effect this October. Starting 24 October 2024, vehicles over 12 tonnes will need extra safety gear if rated below 3 stars. At midnight on 27 October, old DVS permits will become invalid. Vehicles currently with a rating of 0-2 stars must retrofit Progressive Safe Systems (PSS) to meet the new requirements. The new standards aim to improve road safety. Rest assured, all Mercedes-Benz trucks with a rating of 3 and below manufactured with General Safety Regulation equipment, which includes our latest innovation Frontguard Assist (a moving off information system)1 and Active Sideguard Assist 2 (a blind spot information system)2, meet some of the key PSS requirements, avoiding additional fitment of these systems on your newly built vehicles. Speak to your Dealer to find out more. #Roadsafety #MercedesBenzTrucksUK #DirectVisionStandard #DVS 1. Frontguard Assist (S2L) approved to UNECE Regulation 159 (MOIS) 2. Active / Sideguard Assist 2 (S2H / S2G) approved to UNECE Regulation 151 (BSIS)

Heads Up, Tow Truck Operators! New Automatic Braking Law on the Horizon. There's a new law on the horizon that could significantly impact tow truck operator safety: mandatory Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems in new vehicles. While AEB is a fantastic safety feature for everyday drivers, it presents unique challenges for those who work alongside moving traffic. The concern lies in the potential for a car's AEB system to misinterpret a parked tow truck with flashing lights as a hazard and trigger unintended braking. This could lead to rear-end collisions with a tow truck on the scene of a breakdown. Let us know your experiences with AEB! https://hubs.li/Q02By-0t0 #truckoperator #towtrucksafety #AEB #roadsafety
