Great news as Columbus City Council approves high impact funding for low-cost, energy-efficient, and climate-friendly transportation for Columbus residents! "After Council approved two $250,000 grants to Smart Columbus, in late 2022 and October 2023, to provide purchase vouchers, it doubled down Monday with a $500,000 grant for the latest round . . . "It's a point-of-sale discount on an E-bike at a qualifying retailer," said Hailey Allison, who coordinates the e-bike program for Smart Columbus "Residents are required to apply for the program, and then are provided incentives based on income. So they range from $500 up to $2,500, depending on income and also the type of the bike." "From there, they're able to go to a qualifying retailer who will lead them through the purchase." #sustainability #columbusohio #innovation The Columbus Region, One Columbus bill bush

E-Bike rebate programs growing, Oregon is flirting with one joining VT & Denver CO, NY thinking about it. E-bike rebate programs are great to reduce traffic, clean the air & get citizens outdoors to exercise. It also provides transportation for a large group of people who might not have access to transportation, except public transit. Walking 3 blocks to catch a bus to go to a grocery store 2.5 blocks away..... Oregon's proposal would be $1200 rebate for an E-bike and $1700 for a cargo E-bike. E-bike must have a minimum MSRP of $950 so cheap e-bikes won't qualify. Why waste state money on crap? https://rec-law.us/3u8zcSD #E-bikes @RecreationLaw #RecreationLaw #CyclingLaw #RecLaw #CyclistsNotInvisible #traffic #transportation #instahealth #unitedstates #cleantheair #publictransit #group #cargo #reducetraffic #oregon #denver #rebate #citizens #transit #program #proposal #state #air #denverco

e-bike incentives have recently exploded in popularity. More than 100 cities, counties and states have proposed or created programs to encourage residents to purchase battery-powered bikes, and Congress has considered enacting one at the federal level. Policymakers’ enthusiasm is understandable. Every trip taken by an e-bike is greener, healthier and more space-efficient than it would have been in a car (not to mention less dangerous for other road users). But in the rush to encourage e-bike sales, a few questions have gone unanswered: What is the optimal rebate amount? Do the incentives merely subside buyers who could afford an e-bike without any help? And just how climate-friendly are e-bike rebates, anyway? https://lnkd.in/epasS_qF

Businesses and investors hate uncertainty. The development of #micromobility has been hamstrung with uncertainty. Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom rental e-scooters trials have been ongoing since 2020. Policy has ended up in the political long grass. Privately-owned e-scooters remain illegal to use in public spaces, but enforcement appears weak. Rental e-bike are largely unregulated. Voi UK has written to the Mayor say that if the situation does not change, as well as considering removing its 1,700 scooters (from the nine Boroughs out of 33) that permit them) it is considering investing in and deploying 20,000 of its own e-bikes across the capital, as an alternative business model. In London, the trial is being overseen by Transport for London (TfL), with Lime and Voi as the two companies participating. A third operator, Dott, withdrew its scooters in March this year, saying - similarly to Voi - that “the rapid and unregulated rise of e-bikes has left the e-scooter service unable to compete”. As for the big picture: Zag Daily was tracking all the trials, 60+ in 2021. Unfortunately closures and changes are only recorded until 2022. Perhaps collectively we can update the picture, in the comments below, and discover how many trails are ongoing? https://lnkd.in/ea4SnmFw

Bike Lanes Are Good For Business, Actually, And Everyone Who Says Otherwise Is Wrong: Bike lanes are obviously good for cyclists, as they make it safer to ride and encourage people to make more trips on two wheels. More people riding instead of driving is also better for the environment and cuts down on noise pollution from cars. Still, since bike lanes often replace street parking, it’s understandable… Read more... #car #cars #awesome

Encouraging e-bike purchases (high cost & theft risk major disincentives for potential buyers) is essential to maintain and increase the momentum in e-bike uptake. BUT, incentivizing is costly . . . Is it worth it in the end?
E-bike incentives are a costly way to cut carbon emissions, but they also promote health, equity and cleaner air

I love this article showcasing neighborhood e-bike libraries. When people have the chance to try an e-bike, they truly understand its appeal. I don't mean to make this political but I'm going to make this political. Whenever we invited elected officials to tour QBP, we always made sure they experienced a bike ride. Before we started selling e-bikes, it was a fat bike ride along the river bottoms. More recently, we ensured they swung their leg over an e-bike. A brief tour on the nearby bike trail was all it took for them to grasp how e-bikes will attract a wave of new riders. Riding an e-bike is exhilarating and transformative, enabling longer and faster rides. However, this also underscores the need for infrastructure funding and safety improvements to prevent accidents. As advocates, it's one thing to talk about emotions and policy justifications, but it's another to offer a firsthand experience that speaks volumes. If you have access to e-bikes and want to advocate for bike/pedestrian funding and policy, invite your elected officials for a ride. I guarantee they'll enjoy it, and it's far more enjoyable than spending time in a stuffy office. https://lnkd.in/dRbkDceD

Bikes BOOST Businesses "The most effective way to deal with opposition from local businesses is to just get the bike lanes built. Before-and-after surveys tend to show that in the long run, everyone winds up satisfied. All the data in the world may prove that bike lanes are good for business. But nothing beats experiencing them." Those who follow me will know that I primarily talk about EVs and the Automotive Industry as it's where I've spent my entire career. However, if you know me well, you'll know I enjoy cycling, and whenever possible, I try to prioritize it over taking the car. Of course, it doesn't always work out, but I do try - we even went as far as going back to one car 5 years ago. Thus, for obvious reasons, I LOVE bike lanes, especially when they're barrier separated, as it makes the journey MUCH safer. For local small businesses, like you'd typically find on a traditional main or high street, bike lanes are gold as the lower speed enables people to see them, and stop in easier. Sure, it doesn't work for the North American big box store concept that has been created by cars in suburbia, but for cities and even rural towns, the studies show that the transform a location into somewhere that people want to go. My gut feel is that it is best accomplished in conjunction with low surrounding speed limits for cars, secure bike parking and active rejuvenation of the area as a whole. Do you agree that bikes boost Businesses? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below #automotive #batteries #climatechange #electricvehicles #innovation #sustainability #cleanenergy #renewableenergy

We are deeply concerned by the regulatory landscape for micromobility in London. Recently, we reached out to Mayor Sadiq Khan and TfL, urging them to create a level playing field for e-scooters and e-bikes. Without fair regulations, I’ve asked the team to prepare for: either deploy 20,000 e-bikes to compete, or exit the market entirely. We love London and consider it a home city for Voi, but our scooters are stifled by stringent regulations that curb their accessibility and convenience. In stark contrast, our competitor has introduced 20,000 e-bikes using a strategy reminiscent of Uber's — act first, apologize later. These bikes face minimal restrictions, distorting competition and limiting the transport options available to Londoners. London shows the lowest usage rates among the over 100 cities we operate in, a direct result of overbearing regulations that do not exist elsewhere—some of which compromise user safety (like misplaced slow speed zones) and others that merely add inconvenience (such as low parking availability). This must change. Letter to be found here https://lnkd.in/eHca-T2m https://lnkd.in/e4YMsrWt
