I am so incredibly proud and humble to be included in this campaign of highlighting some of Ottawa's strong, valuable, and empowering women, leading the way to success. Imposter syndrome is real, but I won't let it get the best of me this time. As the saying goes, "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one." In my professional career, I have certainly garnered the skills and experience to be an organizational-nonprofit-jack-of-all-trades-type, with finely tuned skills from project and volunteer management to safety and events planning. My career path which I've traveled purposefully down for over a decade in the nonprofit sector is true to who I am. Social responsibility is a big deal to me. I want to ensure that the impact I have leaves a positive mark on the organizations I work with, and in the community in which we live. There's another saying by which I stand by: "Nobody made a bigger mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little." This is the quote which I found ringing in my head at the tail end of the pandemic, and with tensions high in Canada's National Capital Region. I saw the struggle of local businesses, I saw a disconnected community, grasping for positivity. I couldn't eat delicious locally-made foods every night, and I couldn't endlessly buy locally-sold goods, but I could draw a little. As someone who has struggled with self-doubt, I'll admit that at that time, it was really tough to squash the self doubt and to offer my artistic services to local businesses as a means of putting a little colour and fun on their business windows. Some people close to me echoed doubtful what-ifs, but I considered this initial extension of a helping hand as what I could offer at the time. I offered this service free-of-charge at that moment and before I knew it, I had a large portfolio of art and a list of repeat paying clients. Acknowledge your value, relent to your tenacity and perseverance, and just do. You have the drive, you have the resiliency, you have the skills. In an effort to empower others in our community to see and #upskill the value that they bring to the table, to employers, to the community, and beyond, join me in supporting Dress For Success Ottawa National Capital Region 's #HERStory campaign this #WomensHistoryMonth. I've endeavored to raise $500 for them. You can donate here to my campaign: https://lnkd.in/gfvXPZvx Big, heartfelt thanks in advance for your support! Dress for Success is a nonprofit organization with chapters across the Globe. Their mission is to help unemployed and underemployed women achieve economic independence by providing no-fee programs, development tools, and professional attire to thrive in work and in life.
October is #WomensHistoryMonth, and that means it’s time for our fourth annual #HERstory Campaign! Follow along as we highlight 16 inspiring individuals over the next month. We are honoured to showcase this round up of remarkable leaders in the Ottawa community. It is our hope that their stories inspire you as much as they inspired our team! Each participant is fundraising to support women and gender nonconforming individuals who access #DFSOttawa services. By sharing their HERstory, they are empowering others to write their own. Visit the campaign website to check out all the profiles; if someone's story resonates with you, please consider donating ❤️ https://lnkd.in/er_sdHdU We hope you’ll join #DressForSuccess #Ottawa in celebrating Women's History Month with this exciting campaign! #WomenEmpoweringWomen

Did you know that women equity partners at law firms make only 78% of what their male counterparts make? Despite years of progress towards gender equity in the legal field, we at Ms. JD know there's still a lot of work to be done. Whether that's making sure that students from all backgrounds have the resources to get into and succeed in law school, or providing the leadership support and training for women lawyers to advocate for themselves, our programs and community are working to build a better future for women in law. Want to make a difference? Get involved by donating, volunteering, or connecting us with your firm: https://buff.ly/3Y8a6RU Source: https://buff.ly/4ePb3H0

On this Trans Day of Visibility, let's shine a light not only on the bravery and resilience of the trans community but also on the vital importance of funding trans-led organising around the world. Trans-led organisations play a crucial role in advocating for the rights and well-being of trans individuals everywhere. They provide essential support, resources, and advocacy, often in the face of immense challenges and obstacles. Despite the scale of the problems facing the trans community, the resources to support them are scarce. Even within a paucity of funding for LGBTQI organisations, trans organisations are the least funded; more than half of trans groups globally have annual budgets of less than £7,500. That's why it's imperative that we prioritise funding for trans-led initiatives, ensuring they have the resources they need to continue their vital work. Together, we can create a future where every trans person can live without fear or discrimination. Happy Trans Day of Visibility! #TransDayOfVisibility #TDOV #SupportTransOrganising #TransRightsAreHumanRights #Philanthropy #Fundraising

I help small businesses and entrepreneurs increase brand awareness through high-quality, thoughtful visual content.
Major shoutout to an org that's seriously doing the work: @Good To Be Good Foundation 🙌🏾 I love their new Equality in Every Cycle campaign - providing essential menstrual products and services to women, girls, and priority communities when they need them most 🩸 Good to Be Good is a women-led, grassroots nonprofit is all about fighting for gender equity, human rights, and supporting marginalized women and their families—and honestly, I couldn’t be more aligned with their mission 🤎 As a Black woman, community and empowerment are huge for me. Seeing a foundation that’s out here advocating for women, offering crisis relief, and pushing for real change is everything. They’re breaking down barriers, fighting for mental health support, and making sure no one gets left behind. This group is all about dignity, respect, and giving people the tools they need to thrive—no matter their background. And honestly, we need more of that in the world right now. Their dedication to women's rights and human rights hits close to home, and I’m beyond proud to support them. Currently, only 2% of foundation funding goes to gender-focused work and grassroots organizations receive less than 3%. Speakers at the #FreeFuture24 event by Ford Foundation, The Meteor, and Skoll Foundation discussed these statistics and various barriers regarding funding for feminist movements. Here are some quotes that have stuck with me: "I’ve been told it’s not enough it’s not strategic it’s not big enough. We’ve got to get rid of the crap. We’ve got to stop doing this dance we’re all doing. The multiple pitch decks. Telling the right story to the right audience. The answers are held by people who are on the ground." - Monica Ramirez, founder of Justice for Migrant Women "A problem of this scale requires a whole ecosystem. The single project here and there aren't working. Fund the movements that are about collective action." - Dr. Emma Fulu (she/her) “We deserve this. We deserve to be resourced.” - Tarana Burke, founder of the me too. movement. Despite being a (ahem, extremely powerful) global youth-led movement with a track record of successful campaigns, mobilization, and growth, Chalk Back has had trouble finding sustainable, flexible funding sources. Resourcing young feminist movements is an essential step towards achieving gender justice. If you would like to support Chalk Back's work, you can donate here: https://lnkd.in/eJmVcnGp or share our message. #FeministFunding #FundYouthLedMovements
