"Raising the Bar for Inclusivity: A Call for Universal Health Coverage on World Disability Day" ------------------- Today, on World Disability Day, I request your attention not only for inclusion and accessibility but to confront a specific, glaring injustice: the refusal of health insurance coverage for individuals with pre-existing medical conditions. It is absolutely outrageous and unacceptable that so many people in our country, myself included, are callously denied comprehensive health insurance. I could go on and on about the sheer unfairness of this issue. But the real question is: Are there people with the courage and power to make a change? Industrialists, policymakers, academic institutions, corporate organizations, and common public – We have all become complicit in this discrimination. Denying coverage to those with pre-existing conditions is not just unfair. This situation is a disgraceful mirror of our societal values, where those in suffering are abandoned to fend for themselves. Thus, on this World Disability Day, let me serve as a stark reminder of a critical area where our world has shown a profound disability in addition to what I was born: the lack of a fair, just, and universal health insurance for those with pre-existing medical conditions. And if reminders of our shortcomings are not what we seek today, but rather a narrative of hope and progress, here’s one video too.
