The Justdiggit project in Arusha, Tanzania, is a powerful testament to the positive changes that can occur when communities and nature work together.
Through their innovative rainwater harvesting techniques, such as the digging of over 29,000 water bunds, and the practice of Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration, which has regenerated more than 80,000 trees, the project is not only fighting desertification but also enhancing the local microclimate and biodiversity!
In a region where drought and insufficient pasture are significant challenges, the Justdiggit initiative is making strides in restoring agricultural and communal grazing lands.
Their work has a broader impact on the climate as well, as the regreening efforts help to cool the area, create clouds, and increase the chance of rain. This is crucial for restoring the water cycle and advancing the fight against the global climate crisis.
AND, the project has empowered over 7,500 households through training in regreening techniques, fostering socio-economic change and increasing drought resilience.
This educational approach is key to ensuring the long-term success and sustainability of the project.
It's a celebration of community, innovation, and the healing power of nature, all coming together to create a greener, more sustainable world!
