A sad but sweet farewell to the wonderful Katie Hastilow 🍬 Katie joined us July 2023 as our first placement student in the role of Operations Exec. We’re incredibly sad to see her go, as she has become a huge part of the Candy Kittens team. From modeling in marketing shoots to assisting the sales team in rounding up orders, her contributions have been invaluable. She played a significant role in ensuring over 98% of our orders reached retailers on time. Her dedication included trips to suppliers and even a trip to Germany to understand how our sweets are made. She developed strong relationships with retailers, addressing order queries, and helping launch our new products, Wanderlust and Wild & Free. She also helped us set up on a new wholesale platform, Faire, and became an advocate of AI, launching a tool to speed up order processing. Katie has gone completely above and beyond during her time here. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. You will be greatly missed! 😿 😸

What we do. How we look. What we say. How we say it. To me this talks not just about the individual, but about the essence of brand. It's a clear and simple reminder to: Know what you stand for. Be consistent. Be clear. Be authentic. Strauss was the President of Macy's and it was the roaring 20’s. Times were good. They had just expanded their anchor store to an entire city block, over one million square feet. Such growth meant a lot of hiring and the majority of these hires were immigrants from Europe. Loving the sentiment of the #Thanksgiving holiday, these newcomers had embraced their new home and wanted to show pride in their new heritage. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲. Mr. Strauss was all ears. It turns out that Gimbels, a rival of sorts, was already hosting a parade in Philadelphia. Could Macy’s borrow that idea? Could Macy’s best that idea? Why not? How about allowing the employees to march in the parade? Perhaps borrow some animals from the Central Park Zoo? In fact, what about welcoming #SantaClaus at the end of the parade in Herald Square? That first parade was attended by over 250,000 people that saw floats of Mother Goose and Little Red Riding Hood. Those employees? They dressed as clowns, cowboys and knights while bears, elephants and monkeys joined in the procession that included four marching bands. Listen. Borrow. As professionals who are supposed to know everything, we often overlook the hidden lessons in our everyday experiences. Take Troy's caddying story, for instance. It would have been easy to dismiss it as just another summer job, but it was an informal masterclass in the nuances of business and relationships. When we think about those "stodgy old people" at the club, it's crucial to remember they weren't merely golfers but fountains of wisdom on business and life. The secret we need to grasp is this: every interaction presents an opportunity for learning and professional advancement, no matter how seemingly insignificant. In our careers, we frequently encounter situations where stepping into the unknown raises eyebrows and comments like, "That's not how we do it." These moments signal our departure from our comfort zone, and that's precisely where our growth lies. Troy's approach as a caddy is a model for us all. Each day, we should see our roles as jobs and platforms for continuous learning and improvement. In our daily tasks, those routine meetings, and even in the minor, seemingly mundane aspects of our work, we find disguised opportunities for learning. It's about shifting our mindset to see every day as a chance for growth. So here's an insider tip for us all: Let’s embrace every moment as a learning opportunity. Rather than dwelling on our knowledge gaps, let's focus on what each new day teaches us. This attitude is what differentiates truly exceptional professionals from the rest. We must remember that our jobs are more than tasks and responsibilities; they are daily classrooms. Keeping our eyes and ears open can uncover valuable lessons that propel us forward in our careers. How many people are you discounting because you think they don't have something to teach, help, or give you? How often do you not take the opportunity to ask a question because you think you already have the answer or think the person you are with has nothing to offer? Look around and find the wisdom.
At age 14, I was hobnobbing with some of the wealthiest men in Chicago at a private country club: I was their caddy. The experience proved incredibly formative. You’d show up each day to work, game face on, hoping to be paired with a good tipper. If you were lucky, you got Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s… He’d usually hand out about $200 in cash for 18 holes of golf. As a teenager, that was practically a full salary. On less fortunate days, you might get stuck with Mr. Underwood, a stuffy old guy who’d throw a couple bucks your way at the end of the game. Either way, you worked hard and kept your chin up, because you could never be quite sure of the reward. The conversations were equally as valuable. As a caddy, I got to meet all kinds of different people, mostly business executives who had done well in their respective industries. I’d hear them talk about politics, business, relationships, children - all sorts of life lessons. I learned to read the room, pick up on emotions, moods, and formalities. That caddying job taught me the nature of opportunity. No matter who you were paired with, you put in as much effort as possible in hopes of a good outcome. You stayed focused and kept your ears peeled to see what insights you could glean. Every day out had potential, every person was a gold mine. It was all about what you put into it. Before I was 18, I was working full time at Conagra Brands (thanks to some help from my father) - the youngest person by a long shot - and could hold my own. I knew a lot about communication and relationships, overcoming challenges, and getting inventive with solutions. And I took advantage…be sure to learn and take advantage when you can.

Today marks 2✌ years at Crumbl for me! 🎉 We joke that 2 years at Crumbl is like 10 years anywhere else, and I can definitely say it feels like I've had a decade's worth of growing and learning since my first day. The day I started at Crumbl, news of our litigation for trademark infringement broke and the "Cookie Wars" started (remember that?) and there has not been a slow day since! There's been highs and lows in every sense of the word: in sales, KPIs, morale, number of desserts eaten, etc, and not a day goes by that I don't count this job as one of my many blessings. My favorite part? I get to work with INCREDIBLE humans every single day. Not only super talented and smart people, but genuinely GOOD people, who make me laugh and smile and who make me feel cared for. It's also so FUN to work at a company with such a loyal following, knowing that the work we do each day gets viewed and reacted to by millions of people every week. TL;DR: I love my job and don't take the opportunity to be doing what I do lightly. And we're only getting started!
