For some teens, whose friends are everything, it’s adding to their anxiety. Subscribers can check where they rank with a particular friend based on how often that friend communicates with them. The result is automatically rendered in a solar-system metaphor: Are you Mercury, the planet closest to your friend? Great! Uranus? hmmm, bad sign. Some users have said they’ve seen friendships splinter and young love wither due to the knowledge that someone else ranks higher on the app. Some teens have signed up for Snapchat+ just to check their status with a crush. #branding #naming

Snap Inc. School! 🏫👀 Yesterday I joined over 50 snap stars (meaning public figures or creators) to learn from Varshini Satish and Brooke Berry! It was very helpful to hear the struggles of fellow creators and receive useful advice on how to fix or learn our problems/questions. Some takeaways you can learn from!👇 🌟Users on Snapchat value authentic content, does not need to be super edited 🌟There is a growing audience of 430M+ daily active users and this number is growing 🌟Over 40% of people who are on Snapchat daily are not on TikTok and over 50% of them are not on YouTube 🌟90% of all 13-24 year olds are on Snapchat 🌟Snap Creators can monetize through programs such as the Stories Revenue Share program or Spotlight Incentive Program What does this mean for you?🫵 If you are a business trying to promote product or service, look at Snapchat as a platform to reach younger audiences.

I think the platform allows you to be sooo creative and fun because there are so many options with filters, etc. to do so. This was definitely one of the coolest projects I worked on last year! I created a core engine in Lens Studio that allowed the rest of the team to work on the huge number of individual effects independent of each other. The core required projects that were built into a shell template project that I also provided. The shell was kept simple to be quickly and easily understood by creatives and programmers alike. I supported this with a comprehensive documention channel which was updated regularly as the project requirements changed or new features were added (or when someone creatively found a way to break my careful designs!) The live shows required possibly the first uses of an XR DJ. The playlist was mutable and the songs could be longer or shorter versions, so I created a Composer lens which used remote messaging to signal the start and end of each track to all the devices in the crowd. During the early shows we often found that songs were played for which we didn't have a specific sequence - and that's where the DJ bit comes in: Natalie Lambert would listen to the opening, then pick one of the large (23 I think?) set of sequences to play for the crowd. If it didn't quite fit (song intros being notoriously deceptive...) she'd dynamically switch the sequence at an appropriate beat drop to something more suitable. Hats off for an amazing job under live-show pressure there Natalie, Hannah, Molly and Sam (on various shows)! There's a ton more tech I could talk about and many more shout-outs are owed, but I'll stop after adding this: The creative and technical work that went into the huge number of sequences and effects in this project was breathtaking. I created a few code projects, then James Dick and the whole team designed and implemented incredible effects and sequences that simply blew my mind!
