Does anyone of my connections understand how this person didn't get sent to prison? I'm not thinking about punishment..I'm thinking about for the safety of children. He was fined £150 when people who shoplift (to feed their kids) are getting sent down for years? 🔴It must be hard for the courts when the #prisonsystem is chokka. 🔴25% of the prison population are care experienced. 🟣More than 8 in 10 people in prison have suffered #childabuse or #adversity. 🔵There has been an increase by 106% of child cruelty in the last 5 years. What message does this send to survivors. The children in the images he admitted to are real children. Last September I reported someone, only once I knew I had evidence in my care files. December I was told they had been located. I've recieved several calls since to say the reason for delay in questioning them is because they are locating them. What if they are still doing what they did? 🤔 ‼️CALL TO ACTION‼️ #police #justicesystem #courts #safeguarding #socialworkers #survivors #prisonadvocates Let's all unite in the need to keep our children safe and figure this out together. In every case I know you want the best interest for the child/victim..you wouldn't be doing what you do if that didn't matter. Let's work together. We need the long term legacy of change. For our children now and for future generations. #togetherwearestronger #whatiftheywereyourchild The law needs to prioritise the safety of children over the theft of materials. Powerful message from one of the giants in the CSA prevention space:
Founder and CEO of CHILD USA; University of Pennsylvania Department of Political Science Professor of Practice; Former Law Clerk to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Judge Edward R. Becker
This is a simple fact: Children including teens are vulnerable to abusers NO matter where they are — with clergy, police, coaches, teachers, camp counselors, family members and on and on. And institutions protect their own until they can’t. One lesson here with the police is that ALL child sex abuse victims need access to justice to get the ball rolling. And that is the same for the kid whose abuse is discovered soon after it happened and the majority who can’t come forward for decades. We have a systemic problem that needs as much truth as possible. Then the legal system has to be held accountable for how it handles those cases. The blue line that runs through the courts needs to be crossed by judges — who also need to be trained about CSA. Just like the federal bankruptcy system needs to be reformed so that the bad actors are held to account and the victims treated humanely. Thank God for the media that puts all of this in the spotlight. CHILD USA is fighting for the systemic change children need. https://ow.ly/uKuz50Skfnu

Did you know that homicide is the number two cause of death for Black females ages one to 19? This act of deadly violence against a 15-year-old was reportedly executed by three individuals who she had been texting before she was murdered. One has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. The other two are facing similar prison sentences. This is another example of a detonation of homicide grenade exploding in our communities. The direct impact will be responsible for four lives being lost; one buried and the three responsible for the deadly act will serve long term to life in prison. The long term external shrapnel associated with the explosion will be intoxicated with trauma as the families attempt to deal with the circumstances associated with the cold blooded murder of a 15-year-old teenage female. As a parent, can you imagine early one morning walking into your daughter's bedroom to wake her up, but instead you find her dead? I can't fathom the excruciating pain. On the flip side, 1stand45.com advocates that we must address the responsible social determinants that turned these three teenagers into killers. It's not normal thinking for teenagers to plan and execute such a viscous attack without thinking about the long term to life consequences associated with their violent choices. How do you really think that you can kill someone that you have been communicating with and nobody would find out that you were responsible? That's insane and we must assess and evaluate factors responsible for creating the insanity. The three perpetrators were not born that way...their environments birthed their behaviors. This is sad and it continues to happen which is why homicide is the number two cause of death for Black females ages 1 to 19. Regardless if the victim-/survivor has a disability or not - sexual harm to any person, any gender, any impairment or not is inexcusable, not laughable, or a joke. The fact that people attempt to humour women sexually harming men/boys - eg: “oh he would’ve liked it” “she can do it to me, I won’t complain” etc; is preventing our tāne from having the strength to speak up to ask for support. Gendered stereotypes are lame, boring, outdated and harmful. It prevents Tāne from feeling as though their harm will be believed, and is just a joke, too. Perhaps this “humour” is their way of disassociating from their own experiences of harm to avoid vulnerability or whether they are just extremely uneducated, they have mates that laugh at their ‘jokes’ or join in, maybe their frontal cortex hasn’t quite found the maturity switch yet - i beg for the “mates”, colleagues, family members, anyone - to be an upstander and start to challenge these behaviours and comments when you hear them. Whilst we have a whole generation of adults that don’t understand why this language is harmful and label us “woke” - I do have hope knowing that we are in the schools every day, teaching our rangatahi about this and teaching them ways to be an upstander. One example I like to use if your friend makes a harmful comment is (in a calm, assertive tone): “I feel uncomfortable when jokes are made about situations that are not a laughing matter. Can you please tell me more about why you feel that way or what you were meaning?” Thanks for sharing Richie Hardcore and being a voice, educator and advocate in this space. We need more male voices in this field of harm prevention 🤍
The news paper which posted this had to delete countless comments and close the comments section, because so many people were asking what the problem with anyone laying charges is. The teenager who was abused had special needs. The idea that all boys and men want all sex at all times is such a trope of hegemonic masculinity that we have to get rid of. It’s another reasons thing that keeps male survivors of sexual assault and abuse silent. Teacher charged with sexually abusing teenage student facing more charges https://lnkd.in/gtU-ciRR

The statistical odds of being stabbed by a random stranger are less than 1% Every 5 days a man murders his entire family then kills himself. The statistical odds of being murdered by a stranger is less than 10% The #1 cause of death for pregnant women is homicide by intimate partner. The statistical odds of being sexually assaulted by a stranger is less than 10% Roughly 90% of victims of abuse, sexual assault, violence and homicide knew their attackers. Over 90% of homicides and physical violence come in the form of an ambush, very often while the victim is asleep or has their back turned to the perpetrator. Do your self defense and protection courses address these realities, or do they modify reality to suit what they teach? https://lnkd.in/eK92FvTi

In the 2023 NCMEC Impact Report, it was reported that NCMEC received 4,673 requests from law enforcement containing more than 32 million images and videos. Their Child Victim Identification Program identified, with help from law enforcement, more than 27,130 child victims. Of those children, 2,904 are in CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material) which have been seen in multiple reports, meaning they are being actively traded, sold, and/or sent to others. It’s important to look at the relationship of the offender to the child in these actively traded images and videos. As you’ll see below of the breakdown of relationship type, very few offenders are unknown to the child. Neighbor/Family Friend- 23.89% Parent/Guardian- 20.55% Online Enticement- 17.57% Self-Production- 12.29% Other Relative- 11.48% Babysitter/Mentor or Coach- 6.74% Unknown to Child- 4.57% Child Sex Trafficker- 2.91% We tend to assume the “bad guys” are the random strangers. But according to statistics, you should be just as careful with strangers as you are with those you know and trust your children with.

If you live in Texas, you are probably aware that you can look up registered sex offenders in your area through an online database managed by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Now, another database – for repeat family violence offenders – is now accessible to the public. Last summer, Texas lawmakers passed House Bill 5202, which mandates that the Texas Department of Public Safety create and maintain a database of people with two or more intimate partner violence convictions. In this article, the criminal defense attorneys at Varghese Summersett will explain the new law, what information will be contained in the family violence offender database, and what it means for people who have been convicted of repeat family violence in Texas. https://bit.ly/48qYRI4

Do you know the signs to look out for and what to do if you think something's not right? There are many different types of child exploitation, including sexual exploitation or abuse, coerced criminal activity, county lines drug dealing, human trafficking and online grooming. Signs that a child may be being exploited include receiving unexplained and expensive gifts, having new and significantly older friends, changes in mood, regularly going missing from school or home, and being secretive with their electronic devices.
