🌟 Reflecting on an Inspiring Experience at Google I/O Extended in San Francisco! 🌟 I recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the Google Developer Group (GDG) Silicon Valley I/O Extended conference in San Francisco, and it was an unforgettable experience! 🎉 The event was a treasure trove of knowledge, innovation, and networking. Much talk was about Open Source AI, AI security, and privacy. Highlights of the conference included: 💻 Gemini Code Assist & Vertex AI: Jason Smith's in-depth session on Gemini Code Assist was enlightening. The demonstration of real-time code generation and contextual understanding of code was nothing short of revolutionary. 🧠 Prompt API & Chrome Built-in AI: Hemanth HM delivered an engaging and informative talk on the Prompt API and Window.ai. His insights into AI capabilities were both fun and thought-provoking. He also showcased a fascinating experiment on browser AI-powered chat that operates without needing a network connection, highlighting the potential for offline AI applications. 💡 Code Generation with LLMs: Daniel Goncharov's session on code generation using Gemini and other LLMs was a standout, showcasing the future trajectory of AI-driven development. 🌍 Scaling Global Applications with AI: sujata tibrewala's presentation was truly inspiring. She demonstrated the profound impact of AI on scaling massive global applications, highlighting real-world applications and potential. 🚀 Prompt Engineering Workshop: Peter Danenberg's mini-workshop on prompt engineering was a fantastic hands-on experience, enriching my practical understanding of AI applications. Connecting with so many talented professionals and discussing the latest trends in AI was a highlight of the event. The energy and innovation in the room were palpable, and it was an honor to witness the incredible work being done in this field. 🤝💬 A heartfelt thank you to Sakshi Gupta for organizing such a phenomenal conference. Been a few weeks since I visited San Francisco. It’s an amazing place, but I also feel I don’t have to be there to build (yet)👨🏾💻 Firstly, SF is definitely the tech capital. Seeing driverless Waymo taxis in-person is mind-blowing. There’s billboards promoting AI dev tools. And every single day there’s multiple tech events, organized by top start-ups/companies. During the 9 days I was there, there were publicly open events such as: - Google Gemini 1.5 Pro demo at Mountain View - AI Tinkerers SF at the GitHub HQ - Bio x AI Hackathon at the AGI House Global - Notion SF office meet-up - Cohere x Weaviate x Arize AI event - LangChain … and a bunch more events - Many tech conferences (Postman, Open-Source, …) - ~3-4 hackathons from Cognition, Stanford University etc In the South, you’ll find Palo Alto/Mountain View, a completely different feel and where you’ll find all the big tech HQs (Google, Nvidia, Meta, Apple, …) Also where you can find Stanford (which is incredibly beautiful as well - feels like a spanish resort and I definitely want to come back!). And in the North, you’ll find UC Berkeley That being said, I don’t think I have to be in SF yet. I definitely believe the opportunity to meet tech co-founders, entrepreneurial-minded people, customers, investors, etc is unmatchable there. But if you want to just go heads-down studying, learning, building - all you need is internet, a laptop and drive/curiosity. I believe it’s very easy to get distracted by coffee chats, events, hackathons, networking meetups, etc I’m very glad I made the trip and I’ll definitely move to SF one day when I’m ready, but for now I’ll stick with being laser-focused on learning as much as I can with no distractions👌

Oh the mistakes I have made when making work internationally! *Important disclaimer for clients: this was not on your projects. I like Zak's reflections is his article below. (I generally like most of what Zak does, but that’s for his birthday toast.) What stands out to me are two powerful points he makes: both center on the importance of staying humble and seeing life as a constant invitation to grow. Firstly, recognizing we are guests anytime we are telling someone’s story - especially when we're in a dynamic we haven’t experienced before. Be a gracious guest, check your ego, and be ready to learn something. And secondly, this work isn't cookie-cutter, rinse and repeat. When casting a team to tell a story, there’s an alchemy to how it all comes together. A growth mindset comes into play here as well; learning from each opportunity, being open to new ideas and approaches, and understanding each human contributor as more than a title all create a focus and energy around the story that allow it to bloom. If you’re working on something and it’s some new territory for you, I’d be really happy to share anything else I’ve learned from those… ahem, non-client mistakes. And one day, in a city far from home, may a child on the street offer you a blessing that reminds you of the growth that connects us all. #filmmaking
