🌍 Celebrating Youth Day: Empowering the Next Generation for a Greener Future🌱
On Youth Day, we honour the incredible potential of young people to drive meaningful change, especially in the pursuit of a sustainable, green economy. Across Africa and the world, the transition to a green economy hinges on developing “green skills”—the knowledge, abilities, values, and attitudes essential for supporting a sustainable, resource-efficient society.
At Africa's Green Economy Summit, we believe that young people are not just participants but catalytic agents in building a greener future. That’s why our youth initiative is designed to equip and empower them through:
1. A Graduate Programme: Providing valuable experience and insights into the green economy and running of the event itself.
2. Green Economy Ambassadors: Involving youth in the conference, through note-taking and assisting the team.
3. Free Delegate Tickets: Offering a limited number of graduates the opportunity to attend, learn, and network at our event.
4. Youth and Start-up Lightning Talks: A platform for young innovators to share their ideas and inspire others.
5. Discounted Rates for Young Entrepreneurs and Start-ups: Making it easier for the next generation of leaders to engage with the green economy.
By placing green skills at the heart of education, employment, and everyday life, we’re helping to ensure that young people are ready to take the lead in creating a sustainable future for Africa and beyond. Let’s continue to invest in our youth and the green skills they need to build a better tomorrow. 🌍✨

In the latest episode of #ConversationswithGofaone, Dr. McLean Sibanda delves into the vital connection between innovation and problem-solving, emphasizing how these skills are nurtured within our education systems. He asserts that by equipping the younger generation with the skills needed to foster innovation, we can unlock the potential for a thriving economy in Africa. As the rest of the world ages, Africa’s youthful population is growing, presenting a significant opportunity for innovation across the continent.
What’s your take on this topic?
Leading economic development in nations is a complex and multifaceted challenge that requires strategic planning, coordination and collaboration among various stakeholders. Economic development aims to improve the quality of life, well-being and opportunities of the people, while also ensuring environmental sustainability, social equity and cultural diversity. Some of the key factors that influence economic development include governance, infrastructure, innovation, education, health, trade and investment. For example, good governance can foster transparency, accountability and participation in decision-making processes; infrastructure can facilitate connectivity, mobility and access to basic services; innovation can enhance productivity, competitiveness and creativity; education can increase human capital, skills and knowledge; health can improve physical and mental well-being and reduce poverty; trade and investment can expand markets, generate income and create jobs. In conclusion, leading economic development in nations is a vital and rewarding endeavor that can bring positive changes to the world. It requires hard work and commitment. None of it happens overnight.

Two important things are happening this week. All centered on the idea of growing the start-up pipeline🫡

I would love to get engagement from you.
I spoke of growing the pipeline of start-ups from a young age through complementary spaces to the formal education system like our Innovator Hub Clubs, scaling this talent to get a feel of Regional competition as they get ready for the global stage like how we have the Student Start Up Summithttps://lnkd.in/dwmm4giX. I spoke of establishing goverment funds not just for existing start-ups but for the younger ones to ideate, do proof concepts, fail try again. I called for a African Enterprenuers & innovators network that collaborates and grows each other, us boosting of an African database of startups and innovators. I brought context on how STI can be implemented, demystifing the idea of STI being only for Scientists. This is the work l love to do, growing the pipeline and supporting the ecosystem and each one of us has a role to play.
This brings me to the 2nd event concurrently happening that is ZITF Company Innovators Forum which we Elevate Trust Zw have been implementing with ZITF for years now and this year we have the amazing sponsorship from ZB Financial Holdings that is set to growing innovation and we love that🥳. The head of innovation is not playing Patrick Maseko 👏
This year's session featured a pretraining online and expert training during. Although it is just a two day session, to us as the growers of young innovators, it is a way to grow our database and continue training it. The team on the ground is doing a splendid job and it's all exciting.🥳
