💰 FUNDING: €1.4M EU Grant for Rare Endocrine and Bone Condition Research! We are thrilled to announce that EuRREB - European Registries for Rare Endocrine and Bone Conditions - has been awarded a €1.4M grant from the European Commission! This funding will support our ongoing work within the European Reference Networks for rare endocrine conditions (Endo-ERN - European Reference Network) and rare bone conditions (ERN BOND ERN) from 2024 to 2027. With over 35.000 patients, including both children and adults, our registries collect comprehensive data on rare endocrine and bone diseases. Currently active in 30 countries, including non-EU countries, and in more than 100 hospitals, our initiative continues to expand its reach and impact. The registries are led from the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) by Prof. Natasha Appelman-Dijkstra and Prof. S. Faisal Ahmed (University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School and LUMC), whose dedication and expertise are driving forces behind our success. A healthy sense of trust at the upcoming EAPM Side Event at European Haematology congress on June 14th, Madrid... In the fast-moving area of healthcare with its cutting-edge science it is already, and will become more, vital that stakeholders collaborate openly and effectively. This should ensure that regulations and legislation covering, for example the new, smaller clinical trials required to make personalised medicine work effectively, the huge practical and ethical issues surrounding Big Data and data protection, ensuring earlier access and the necessary standards for biobank samples and in vitro devices are common, understood and enforced across the EU. Despite Member State competence in many areas, there is undoubtedly a need for common European health legislation as much as possible, but it must be the right legislation. Unfortunately, experience has shown that having separate rules in every Member State does not really work, for a variety of reasons. For example, it often leads to an R&D environment that is not competitive, slows the innovative dynamic and ultimately represents a barrier to the emergence of effective therapies for untreated disease. With more integration, collaboration, dialogue and increased trust among each and every one in the field, stakeholders can help mould the right frameworks, in the right place, at the right time. Once achieved, this will allow us all to work more quickly and more effectively towards creating a healthier – and thus wealthier – European Union. But it also has to start with a European Parliament that is on message when it comes to the issues facing its citizenry. Health is key. Join us this April for World Sarcoidosis Awareness Month as we unite to raise awareness for the over 1.2 million people worldwide living with sarcoidosis. At Xentria, our commitment to the sarcoidosis community extends beyond awareness as we continue the clinical development of XTMAB-16 - our lead investigational candidate which may disrupt an important inflammatory pathway involved in the formation of sarcoidosis granulomas. Efforts to research the clinical relevance of this effect are underway as our Phase II clinical trial remains ongoing. The future looks bright for TB diagnosis, with the WHOs endorsement of computer aided Detection in chest Radiography with screening methods. Having worked first hand with the NRLs and local sample collection sites in East africa , STOP TB Parnership/UNOPS through MOHs has done a tremondous job in equiping our Labs with the reagents for TB testing. The overall outlook is that most collection/localised testing Labs have embraced Molecular testing for the obvious TAT benefits hence POC whereas National reference labs are additionally doing the phenotypic MGIT testing . Did you know, for MGIT while setting up the SIRE KIT the PZA KIT is usually separate ?? Did u also know ,for second line ( Mostly fluoroquinolones ) the clinicians will have to wait for more than 42days incubation with LJ/ Middlebrok medium challenges to get the DST results ,probably with transportation challenges to NRLs ?? Did you also know for extrapulmonary TB cases ,Disseminated TB cases our labs could embrace blood as a sample for culture and not just sputum?? Although Initial assays focused on Rif /Isoniazid, the future of TB testing is molecular, getting to incorporate Pza- NAAT molecular testing for DST together with Second line drug testing as POC will improve TB management by greater margins, considering the fact that there are substantial studies showing the later shortens the treatment period and betters patients outcomes. #YESWECANENDTB! #WorldTbDay
