Brilliant and interesting insights here in Charlottes post.
I was asked by Lee Pace this morning whether I believe that conformity is part of the human design?! My quick answer is no, it’s not, rather, it’s a behaviour that arises when the body and mind are in fight or flight. It’s the human mental and biological system in complete confusion and disarray, as is non conformity.
Conformity arises when we are unable to access our innate intelligence either through not being allowed to, or never being taught to. Such behaviour requires the bypassing of agency, as does non conformity.
The alternative is co-operation, which requires the willingness and capacity to follow our innate intelligence, working together for the greater good, ultimately knowing that we are not under threat.
Co-operation doesn’t put ourselves or other at risk as it’s always seeks the best possible outcome. Conformity does put ourselves and/or others at risk and is only benefits those requiring or demanding conformity.
Confomity is sought by those who exert control, co-operation is sought by those who seek outcomes that work for everyone.
Conformity comes from insecurity and fear.
Co-operation comes from ease and peace of mind.
Conformity has its roots grounded in trauma.
Co-operation has its roots grounded in peace of mind.
We can utilise these learnings in all areas of our lives. We can spot the behaviours in others and take it into consideration during our interactions, but not without the awareness to do so.
Workplaces, education, communities, and most importantly, childhood, flourishes under co-operative leadership, but are stiffled, dangerous and go against our true nature, under leadership that is grounded in conformity.
I know I’ve simplified something that’s complex, but the nature of conformity is always complex.
GIANT TODDLERS RIOT IN SOUTHPORT..... just look at these people.
They are not behaving rationally. They cannot assess a situation for themselves, they like a simple narrative and to move without thinking of the consequences.
They are easily led by others because they have some big gaps in their basic development.
We as a society made these people. let us not wrap it up in a simple narrative ourselves.
We as a society chose to obsess about numeracy & literacy at 4yo and not to seek to maximise human development for ALL.
* No PE curriculum to maximise and maintain motor skills development
* No sound therapy at all - I am certain that all the rioters will have sound processing disorders
* No checks for binocular vision or visual processing - I am certain that none have good visual skills
We are complex animals. Human development needs to be the central theme of any effective education and health system.
