My experience in the maritime industry has shown me the immense value of HUET in ensuring safety and saving lives in high-risk environments. Given the unpredictable weather and challenging conditions of offshore operations, the risk of helicopter incidents, though rare, is a reality that must be addressed. HUET training provides hands-on experience, simulating emergency scenarios where participants must escape from a submerged helicopter in a controlled environment. This includes learning how to safely exit an inverted helicopter, use breathing equipment, and manage disorientation under water. The HUET course typically lasts one day and combines both classroom instruction and practical exercises. I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve just earned my certification in Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training with Dry Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (BOSIET + CA-EBS). This means I’m all set to safely deliver medical services in offshore locations. A few years ago, I had a near-death experience that left me with a rather intense fear of water. During my recent offshore safety training, I faced that fear head-on. Among various drills, I jumped into a 15-foot-deep swimming pool, swam across what felt like an ocean, and climbed onto a life raft. I even escaped from a simulated helicopter while submerged and flipped over, all while strapped into my seat. Of course I panicked! But at least I didn't need CPR. Reflecting on this journey, I’m extremely grateful for the hurdles I’ve overcome. Here are a few lessons I’ve learned: 1. Persevere: Don’t give up too easily. That final effort might just lead to success. 2. Confront your fears: Don’t let past fears stop you from pursuing your goals. 3.
