It's hard to believe that our family company will be celebrating its 80th Anniversary this year (Since 1944).   The last 3 months have been a turbulent time in the Die Sets, Plate, Parallels, and Custom Fabrications market segment. We have seen a 100-year-old manufacture in this segment close their doors (Superior Die Set), and needless to say, this has caused a “ripple effect” through the 5 states we are Blessed to service (MO / IL / KS / IA / NE). But it is in these times of change, we (Lee Horneyer Company) felt it imperative to take a hard “look in the mirror” in the trust and value we are offering to our marketplace in this segment (Die Sets, Plate, Parallels, and Custom Fabrications).   Lee Horneyer Company (Since 1944) is proud to introduce a company that is “that” (On time… As Promised… At a Cost In Line With Fair Market Value), but so much more…..  

Next September 10th will mark the eleventh anniversary of Mr Steno Marcegaglia’s passing. It might seem timely to commemorate him now, but this is not a commemoration; I feel too insignificant in comparison to such a giant. No, the reason I have decided to write about Steno Marcegaglia is that I cannot escape the feeling of missing him. Mr Marcegaglia's most significant masterpiece was his ability to instil his vast industrial vision, unique commercial style, and long-term strategic approach to making astute investments and expanding his business in his duaghter and son. This is why the Marcegaglia Group is one of Europe’s and the world’s most efficient industries. He never ceased to seek opportunities, never relied on others for help or assistance. He was a pioneer and an exemplar for all. A giant, yet reserved and indifferent to popularity. I had the honour of meeting him for the first time twenty-eight years ago. Out of the blue, I sent an unsolicited offer for stainless steel coils to his company. He called me and kindly asked if I had time to visit his factory. When I met him, I confirmed my belief that he was (and still is) a giant. Without mincing his words, he told me he had checked my price directly with the stainless steel producer (to demonstrate his ability to buy directly if he wished). However, my offer was honest, with fair margin and accurately calculated costs, he said. We secured the first order. From then until I changed my responsibilities, he would occasionally call to discuss the market, but for orders, he preferred face-to-face meetings. Once, when I visited his office, he asked, “Coffee or orange juice?” I chose coffee, but he said, “We’ve bought too much orange juice by mistake, so I’d appreciate it if you skipped the coffee in favour of some orange juice.” I agreed. He was gently informing me that the price for the new stainless steel order would have to be reduced significantly due to excessive inventory. We managed it! Perhaps my experience seems insignificant to you, but it is profoundly important to me, and I will never forget the powerful feeling I experienced each time I was in Mr Marcegaglia’s presence. What has happened to our society, and what have we done wrong to lack such geniuses today? It seems that a significant portion of new generations have been raised in a kind of intensive breeding that extinguishes the minds of new managers, filling them with a plethora of useless, prepackaged notions. Thankfully, not all, but many industrial managers sit by the phone waiting for calls instead of going out and hunting for opportunities. It’s sad.

Rolls-Royce's Expansion: Crafting Exclusivity and Innovation I just read an interesting article entitled "Rolls-Royce is growing its factory so it can build its ‘bespoke’ cars more slowly", by  Peter Valdes-Dapena, on the CNN website. This is exciting news from Rolls-Royce as they announce a major expansion of their Chichester factory! However, it is explained that this isn't just about increasing production; it's a strategic move to enhance their bespoke customization, catering to the unique desires of their ultra-wealthy clientele. The expansion includes five new buildings, providing much-needed space for more intricate workshops and storage for exotic materials. Unlike typical automotive expansions aimed at increasing volume, Rolls-Royce is focusing on making even more personalized vehicles. This decision underlines their commitment to maintaining their exclusivity as a premium brand. Since 2020, while the sales of Rolls-Royce vehicles have risen by 17%, the average price per vehicle has skyrocketed by 43%, from $350,000 to $500,000. This price increase is primarily due to the growing demand for customized features—ranging from bespoke paint jobs to interiors designed with custom wood inlays and even built-in cabinetry. For professionals in the automotive sector, this is a fascinating development to watch as it underscores a broader trend towards ultra-customization in response to global wealth dynamics. In my opinion, it is a strong example of listening to the needs and wants of their core group of customers. Simply scan the QR code, enter your name, place an order and they deliver straight to you during your pedi! Both brands benefit with Lacquer gaining a unique offering for customers and Argo benefit from increased “table” capacity and brand reach to a captive audience. If only hairdressers in Adelaide offered simultaneous nail services so customers could benefit from time saved!
