The "Treat Employees Like People" Guy

Non-monetary rewards are one of the largest factors in increasing employee retention. There’s a lot of research that suggests employees who get thoughtful gifts from their employers are more likely to stick around than employees who get raises, even when the raise is more money than the value of the gift. No, that doesn’t mean give your employees a goodie bag with a pen and some Reese’s Pieces like that Burger King worker… It means recognizing your team’s hard work and dedication through personalized gifts that mean something to them. That could mean getting your overworked HR manager a spa day at the Four Seasons…not because it sounds nice or because it’s a cliché, but because they mentioned one time in a meeting that’s where they had the best massage of their life. Or, if one of your employees has a kid who really wants soccer lessons, that’s a much better work anniversary gift than a watch or an Amazon gift card. Even something as simple as taking your team out to a nice lunch to celebrate a milestone can make them feel really special. No, not a pizza party in the break room. Take them out, somewhere nice, for more than 30 minutes. Show them you care. And that you think about them. And that you hear what they have to say. And they’ll be loyal to you.
