Black Maternal Health Week is an opportunity to amplify the voices of Black mothers and birthing people to advocate for addressing health disparities and improving access to care. During the health equity in maternal health panel at HAP's Leadership Summit, Pennsylvania Doula Commission President, Gerria C. spoke about how asking "Why?" could be the most important question to ask when working to address inequities in maternal health and opportunities to improve health outcomes. #BlackMaternalHealthWeek #BMHW24

April is National Minority Health Month (NMHM), a time to raise awareness about the importance of improving the health of racial and ethnic minority communities and reducing health disparities. Celebrated every year in April, National Minority Health Month: ✔️Builds awareness about the disproportionate burden of premature death and illness in people from racial and ethnic minority groups. ✔️Encourages action through health education, early detection and control of disease complications. This year’s theme is Be the Source For Better Health which means taking charge of your own health and encouraging those around you to do the same. This theme highlights the important role that individuals can play in promoting health equity by making small changes in their daily lives. How are you celebrating #nationalminorityhealthmonth? #nmhm24

As we bid farewell to March and welcome April, I want to bring attention to an important observance: #NationalMinorityHealthMonth. This month serves as a reminder of the critical need to address health disparities and inequities faced by minority communities. In the midst of this awareness month, let's recognize the unique health challenges and barriers that minority populations encounter. From access to quality healthcare services to socio-economic factors influencing health outcomes, there are numerous systemic issues that demand our attention and action. During National Minority Health Month, let's commit to fostering inclusive healthcare environments, advocating for equitable access to resources, and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. Here's to a month of reflection, advocacy, and collective action toward health equity. https://lnkd.in/dzTDWWid #minorityhealth

Black Maternal Health week is from April 11-17 but should be discussed and focused on every day. This is an important read! Black mamas are dying at higher rates than other racial groups. #blackmaternalhealth #blackmaternalhealthweek #birthequity #birthjustice #BMH24 #blackmamasmatter
The Black maternal health crisis is a public health emergency in the US. Black women are 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. In recognition of Black Maternal Health week from April 11th-17th, IWPR puts forward federal and state policy solutions for improving maternal health outcomes among Black women. Since Dr. Jamila Taylor has brought her leadership and expertise on this paramount issue to IWPR, I look forward to IWPR's future contributions to solving the Black maternal health crisis. https://lnkd.in/eHZSqg3j
