Exciting developments in clean energy as Edwards & Sanborn (E&S), the largest solar + battery storage project in the US, goes online in Kern County, California! With an impressive 875 MW of solar capacity and 3,320 MWh of energy storage, the project spans 4,660 acres in the Mojave desert. Owned and operated by Terra-Gen, LLC, a leading renewable energy company, and constructed by EPC player Mortenson, E&S features 1.9 million First Solar PV panels and over 120,000 long-duration energy storage batteries from LG Chem Power, Inc., @Samsung, and BYD. Connected by 400 miles of wire, it's set to supply power to the City of San José, Southern California Edison (SCE), Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Clean Power Alliance, and Starbucks, among others. Brian Gorda, VP of Engineering at Terra-Gen, hails E&S as a "transformational project" providing grid resiliency, while Mark Donahue, SVP at Mortenson, expresses pride in delivering clean, resilient power to the region. As the project expands to interconnect an additional 2,000 MW, E&S is set to offer a staggering 3.35 GW of solar storage. A monumental step towards a sustainable future! 🌐💡 #cleanenergy #milestone #batteries #solarinnovation #sustainablefuture #renewableenergy #batterystorage #solarpower #energystorage #californialawyer #sustainability #batterypower #projectcompletion

Community solar developer Standard Solar has acquired the 12.18 MW Wheeler Gulch project from original owner Caerus Piceance. The two will now partner on decarbonizing the latter's oil and gas operations there. The ground-mounted solar array will help incorporate renewable energy into Colorado’s oil and gas sector. The project will produce energy to support Caerus Piceance’s Middle Fork compressor station for more stable electricity costs and reduce dependence on the traditional power grid. The new Wheeler Gulch project covers 44 acres along County Road 215 in Garfield County. The site will produce approximately 25 million kWh of clean, renewable electricity each year. Caerus Operating LLC has close to 7,500 natural gas wells in the Piceance and Uinta basins, producing close to 600 million cubic feet per day. The Wheeler Gulch project with approximately 22,000 solar panels will be integrated with the Xcel Energy grid and all generated power will be used on-site for Caerus’ operations. It will produce enough energy to power approximately 2,200 average American homes annually. While Garfield County’s Board of Commissioners has approved the project, in support of Caerus’ efforts to diversify its energy sources, it is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Standard Solar has invested in several new community and utility-scale projects over the past year. Private equity firm Brookfield Renewables acquired Standard Solar for $540 million in late 2022. Investment in community solar is rising nationwide as an alternative between the more expensive residential rooftop solar and the more remote, less direct utility-scale solar projects. Community solar invites customers to subscribe to the project and its output, and the customers receive credits which lower electric bills and contribute to decarbonization of the regional grid. Taking the next step forward in its electric generation transition, NIPSCO recently completed another solar project. NIPSCO’s latest solar facility is expected to generate 200 megawatts of solar energy. It has an additional 45 megawatts of battery storage technology. Cavalry Energy Center, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, developed and constructed the solar facility in White County. Cavalry Solar is now online and operating, producing energy for homes and businesses. The facility will produce enough energy to power about 60,000 homes. It is expected to generate about $25 million in additional tax revenue for White County over the life of the project. “The completion of Cavalry Solar, the third solar project in NIPSCO’s generating mix, is a crucial step in advancing our energy generation transition plan to provide sustainable, cost-effective and reliable energy now and into the future,” said Vince Parisi, NIPSCO president and chief operating officer, in a press release [https://lnkd.in/gT_U-Sav]. Cavalry Solar joined two additional NIPSCO projects – Indiana Crossroads Solar also in White County and Dunns Bridge I Solar in Jasper County. “We are pleased to work with NIPSCO on this solar project, and we look forward to continue working with them to bring additional renewable energy projects to the Hoosier state in the coming years,” said Anthony Pedroni, of NextEra Energy Resources. Other upcoming solar and wind projects in Indiana include: • Dunns Bridge Solar II in Jasper and Starke counties • Gibson Solar in Gibson County • Fairbanks Solar in Sullivan County • Templeton Wind in Benton County • Carpenter Wind in Jasper County • Appleseed Solar in Cass County Merrillville-based Northern Indiana Public Service Company has served northern Indiana for over 100 years. The company serves about 859,000 natural gas and 483,000 electric customers across 32 counties. NIPSCO is one of NiSource’s six regulated utility companies. #nipsco #nisource #calvaryenergy #calvarysolar #energyenvironment #businessnews
