Our #HydroPictureOfTheWeek mystery is solved! It's none other than the distributor of a pump #turbine, a vital component on its way to delivery at the Limberg III #PumpedStorage power station of our client VERBUND AG. ⚡ The distributor, where the flow energy is converted into mechanical energy up to 240 MW, weighs over 100 tons. All bearing clearances of it are reduced to a minimum in order to withstand the high vibrations of a pump turbine, and the gaps between moving and stationary components are just a few tenths of a millimeter. 💧 Limberg III, is a #hydropower station with a total capacity of 480 megawatts. Similar to Limberg II, whose components were also supplied by us and commissioned in 2011, it is being entirely constructed underground between the existing Mooserboden reservoir (at an altitude of 2,036 m) and Wasserfallboden reservoir (at an altitude of 1,672 m). Located in the municipality of Kaprun in Salzburg, Austria, it's part of a larger generation group consisting of reservoirs and power stations. 💡 Once completed, Limberg III will be a power station uniquely tailored to meet the future needs of the energy transition. It will utilize variable-speed pump turbines, enabling high flexibility in responding to the increasing demand for balancing and regulating energy in the grid.
