"Solargis stands out in the market due to its exceptional accuracy and the provision of one-minute granularity data. This level of precision is a feature that sets them apart from other players in the industry." Said Jolyon Dent, VP of Analytics at Convergent Energy and Power. Convergent has over 800 MW / 1 GWh of energy storage and solar-plus-storage systems operating or under development. The company needed a way to undertake a highly site-specific resource assessment campaign, coupling high resolution satellite data and reliable on-site measurements. We worked with GroundWork Renewables specializing in ground irradiance and meteorological (MET) data to conduct a site adaptation of its satellite data using ground-based measurements from the Puerto Rico project site. This involved: – Generating high-resolution satellite based synthetic data at one-minute intervals by correlating satellite data with high-frequency weather and solar irradiance ground measurements – GroundWork running an on-site ground monitoring campaign to calibrate the high quality instruments and comprehensive quality control checks. The results of this measurement campaign were used to optimize the PV plant design for grid stability by determining the optimal DC/AC ratio and energy storage characteristics to ensure cost-effectiveness and accurate energy production modeling. Accurate solar resource data is critical due to the need to control the plant's ramp rate using the battery to mitigate rapid rate changes and ensure efficient power output. I truly appreciate the effort and dedication of the entire team—thank you for a great experience! (𝟮) 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Many key players in the market are increasingly opting for vertical integration. Independent Power Producers (IPP) are expanding their Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) capabilities, while EPC firms are actively seeking investors to develop projects independently. As more solar PV projects emerge, we can anticipate further integration, especially in asset management. Notably, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) remains one of the most outsourced functions in the industry. (𝟯) 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 Using historical satellite-based solar data is not common yet in Taiwan. The market has been using various ways to estimate long-term irradiance based on the energy output of existing plants or ground measurements from a distanced location. I look forward to sharing more information about the potential benefits of incorporating satellite data into solar energy assessments. This approach could provide more accurate irradiance estimates and enhance the reliability of solar PV projects and support better decision-making in the industry. I hope to hear more from you and connect with others interested in innovative solutions for solar energy in Taiwan 💪🏻 #solarenergy #solarpower #solardata #solargis #renewables #renewableenergy #taiwan #singapore #cleanenergy #netzero

GHI difference maps for September 2024 & some interesting findings👇 ▶ Serious positive anomaly documented in East Sichuan and Chongqing provinces (China), up to +70%. This is due to less cloudy days than usual and lower documented AOD. Similar patterns are documented in ERA5. ▶ Other positive anomalies around: – West/Central Russia: +40%) – Great Lakes, dominating around Lake Superior: up to +30% ▶ And a negative anomaly near Florida: up to -20% ▶ PREC data includes rains in Central Europe which caused floodings --- Monitor your PV plant performance with Solargis monthly maps & reports. we provide satellite-based PV output data for the short term (past six months to the previous day). Each month, we re-analyze GHI values to assess the impact of aerosols. This re-analysis is particularly valuable for monthly performance reporting, especially during large-scale natural disasters. 👇
☀️🌍𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗢𝗗? 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲? Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) measures how much sunlight is blocked by tiny particles in the air. High AOD indicates a greater concentration of these particles, which reduces the direct sunlight reaching solar panels and ultimately leads to lower energy production. Common causes of high aerosol concentrations include dust storms, wildfires, volcanic eruptions, industrial emissions, agricultural activities, and humidity. The impact of AOD on solar asset performance can be significant. For instance, we recently observed the effects of a forest fire in Portugal, where ash from the fires in Portugal and Northwest Spain caused a temporary GHI reduction of up to 30% on September 19-20. 📊✨At Solargis, we provide satellite-based PV output data for the short term (past six months to the previous day). At the same time, it is important that you and we don't waste time in inefficient communication. With this in mind, I'd like to share an excellent guide prepared by our customer support team and technical teams on what are the most common reasons for discrepancies, what you could check before contacting us, and how to share information with us for speedy resolution of the issues faced. 👇
As a salesperson, I ❤️ getting customer complaints! Here's why: 1. Every complaint is an opportunity to understand customer frustrations and fine-tune our services 2. It's also an opportunity to help the customer understand the complexities of our service and showcase our commitment towards the customer's success At Solargis, although we provide data with unmatched accuracy, we receive complaints almost daily about inconsistencies between our data and customer's measurements. Such feedback is more than welcome. If you have such feedback to share, go ahead and bombard us with such feedback. Outcomes of satellite-model data rely on the frequency and resolution of satellite data acquisition instruments. Certain cloud situations, mainly smaller size, high variability clouds, or a combination of snow/ice and cloud scenes are difficult to detect at full accuracy. Data coming from the models can be validated only with the best-quality pyranometer measurements. However, measurements by ground sensors are affected by environmental conditions (dust, humidity, dew, snow) and technical errors caused, for example, by misalignment and miscalibration of instruments or data logger issues. Therefore, before the measurements can be considered a trustable “ground reference” the values have to be quality controlled and errors filtered out. The solar data quality assessment from Solargis consists of the following steps: #dataquality #solar #satellitedata #renewableenergy

To validate the accuracy of the Solargis satellite model data, we compare it with high-quality ground-measured data from stations around the world. The ground-measured data undergo a quality assessment before the comparison. This ensures their high quality and uncertainty within the measurement uncertainty of the instruments. The table below shows the summary of the accuracy statistics of Solargis solar radiation data compared to high-quality ground measurements at more than 300 sites across all types of climates. You can learn more and see statistics for each validation site at: https://lnkd.in/ei3Fuedn #solardata #solar #datavalidation #GHI #DNI

🤔 Why is detail important: How to filter erroneous PV measurements to retain enough data for analysis That's the title of our presentation at EU PVSEC in the frame of SERENDI-PV last week. Callum Connolly, our Technical Consultant, dove deep into the topic of optimizing data. He talked about how analysis of PV production data in sub-5-minute resolution can give an insurmountable wealth of information that can be used in all aspects of PV monitoring and forecasting. Examples of features and failures found in Serendi demo data are exemplified which helped in the development of automatic detection tools and refining the quality control process. #EUPVSEC #Photovoltaics #SolarEnergy #Innovation #Collaboration #SolarData
