Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that local governments are free under the Constitution to fine and jail people who sleep in public places, even if they have nowhere else to go at night. Homelessness is one of those societal problems that is too often left to law enforcement agencies that are ill-equipped to handle it. Our region can choose, and must choose, to do better. The Supreme Court's ruling on homelessness is backwards and cruel. It's also a distraction from real solutions. - Solid Ground

While crime continues to escalate, Territorians continue to suffer under this government. When will enough be enough?! My Team and I have a Plan for a Safe and Strong Territory, and that’s why our policies: ✅ Create a minimum mandatory sentence for anyone who assaults someone at work ✅ Give police more power to deal with problem drunks and public drinking ✅ Target problem drinkers through compulsory alcohol rehabilitation ✅ Give police strong powers to deal with youth criminals and public drinking ✅ Lower the age of criminal responsibility so that youths and their parents are held accountable ✅ Implement mandatory community service

Towns and cities in the 9th judicial circuit have been forbidden from forcing unhoused people to move from public property if there are no shelter beds because of the 8th amendment protection against cruel and unusual punishment. These communities are awaiting a Supreme Court decision this month that could overturn the 9th judicial circuit's decision and impact how every community across the country addresses the unhoused. "For homeless people, the question is, are they gonna face criminal punishment because they have nowhere else to live? For cities, the question would be, what can cities do lawfully to deal with their unhoused population? And for the Constitution, the question is, what's this gonna mean for the 8th Amendment?" https://lnkd.in/dQmfD8T9

Corporal punishment remains the most common and widely accepted form of violence against children, often occurring in various settings, including penal systems. Despite progress towards universal abolition—with 66 countries banning it in all settings and 27 more committed to full prohibition—many children worldwide are still left behind. so true, well done to you all
So often, police are heavily criticised for how they respond to crime and community issues, like domestic and family violence. Yesterday’s tragic event in NSW is an example of what officers prepare themselves for. No one plans to go to work and take a life however, that’s what officers across Australia are prepared to do. We may not be perfect but our intent is good 💙 Events like this mass murder, where a single officer has saved lives, needs to be commended by everyone. #policeruninwhenothersrunout

This should be disgusting and alarming to all.
The far-left "Sanctuary State" is doing everything they can to protect murderers and child rapists who are here illegally. We are long past the point where it's time to start arresting and charging elected officials and judges. #lawenforcement #news https://lnkd.in/gAryQr-K
