Arizona Electric Power Cooperative (AEPCO) has been selected to receive $485 million in USDA New ERA funding to transform its power portfolio with major investments in new large-scale solar, battery energy storage, and wind projects. These new projects will benefit 40 electric not-for-profit cooperatives and public power utilities across Arizona and the Southwest. With these new projects, AEPCO expects to reduce emissions by 70 percent before 2031. Patrick Ledger, CEO of AEPCO, emphasized that the U.S. Department of Agriculture's New ERA Program has created a "once-in-a-generation opportunity" for AEPCO and its members to invest in utility-scale renewable energy projects without compromising affordability. "This funding will enhance the not-for-profit, community-based electric utility model and will provide stable and long-term benefits for our rural communities for years to come," Ledger added.
