🚀 Exciting times to be in the energy sector! 🌍
Today, the Prime Minister and Energy Secretary announced a ground breaking partnership between Great British Energy and The Crown Estate, set to drive up to £60 billion in private investment towards energy independence.
Great British Energy, backed by £8.3 billion, will be at the forefront of making Britain a clean energy superpower. This initiative will invest in clean power projects across the UK, including nuclear energy, ensuring that the benefits are felt by British communities and bill payers.
Key highlights:
- Nuclear Energy: Investing in safe and sustainable nuclear power as part of the clean energy mix. The UK currently operates 8 nuclear reactors, contributing significantly to the country’s electricity supply. New investments will focus on expanding this capacity to ensure a stable and low-carbon energy source.
- Offshore Wind Development: Aiming for 20-30GW of new offshore wind by 2030, enough to power nearly 20 million homes.
- Public Sector Role: Early development work to reduce risks for developers and accelerate project timelines.
- Technological Boost: Supporting innovations in carbon capture, hydrogen, wave, and tidal energy.
Legislation is already in motion to empower this partnership, marking a significant step towards clean power by 2030! 🌱💡
