Today is an International Rural Women Day! Congratulations to all Rural Women for your highly valued work and contribution, for your special dedication in achieving Goals! A mezőgazdaságban dolgozó nők szerepvállalása a kulcs - Magyar Mezőgazdaság (magyarmezogazdasag.hu) Empowering women farmers can contribute to the sustainable development of agriculture Author: Anna Babich, Corporate Communications Manager for Eastern and Central Europe & Turkiye, Corteva Agriscience October, 15, International Rural Women's Day, recognizes the vital contribution of women in rural communities worldwide to community development, agricultural growth and the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices. In Europe, agriculture is still largely male-dominated, but the role of women is growing steadily. According to data of Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office, 31.6% of farmers in 2020 were women, a significant increase from 26.4% in 2005. While the number of female farm managers is increasing, especially in younger age groups, reflecting a positive shift towards more inclusive agricultural management, efforts are still needed to address inequalities. The results of "Women in Agriculture: lifestyles, priorities, challenges" study, carried out in Hungary by the global agricultural science and technology company Corteva Agriscience in collaboration with the research company ProInsight Lab, also showed that further action is needed to overcome gender discrimination in the sector and unlock the full potential of women-led farming in the country. 70% of respondents believed that discrimination against women in agriculture was a problem, but the majority said that discrimination had not increased over the past 10 years. On the positive side, 55% thought that discrimination could be eliminated in the future, 32% thought it would happen within a decade and 21% thought it would happen in the next two decades. Corteva's survey highlighted the huge role that gender equality initiatives can play in ending gender discrimination in agriculture in the future. Corteva is committed to support the development and empowerment of women in agriculture and, recognising these challenges, has made significant efforts to improve the position of women. An excellent example of this is the TalentA program, founded and developed by the company to provide training opportunities and financial support to women in rural areas who are engaged in agricultural activities. Since its launch, Corteva has provided training to over 1,500 participants around the world. In Hungary, the program has so far been launched twice, with more than 50 women farmers who have benefited from the training, mainly in the areas of leadership, entrepreneurship, finance and agricultural skills. Corteva has also supported the winners of the Hungarian microproject competition with a total of HUF 6.5 million to develop their businesses and communities. #Corteva Agriscience

🌷On International Women's Day, we highlighted the essential role of women in agriculture all over the world. 👩🌾Smallholder famers, almost half of whom are women, often have fewer opportunities and struggle to overcome barriers such as financial constraints, cultural norms, and the dual role of caring for children and family. 🌾The Better Life Farming alliance therefore strives to help female farmers to thrive by supporting them in their roles as farmers, agronomists and agri-entrepreneurs — providing them with agricultural knowledge, market expertise, and access to advanced agricultural solutions - creating a positive cycle of women succeeding who are able, in turn, to support other women in doing the same. 🌱This empowerment leads to more sustainable agricultural practices, improved yield, increased profitability which helps contribute to the overall wellbeing of women, their families and communities. ⚕️But not only: Better Life Farming helps women to live healthier, more enriched lives also by providing access to healthcare and education. 🌍🥣On IWD, and every day, let’s celebrate and uplift women working in agriculture all over the world, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities they need to produce the food the world needs. #foodsecurity #IWD #inspireinclusion #healthforallhungerfornone

Today, I came across this Avinews article: https://lnkd.in/eYAM4qvG and felt compelled to share. It's uplifting to witness the inclusive strides being made in the industry, particularly in how #women in #leadership roles are spearheading transformative changes and tackling key challenges with fresh perspectives and innovative solutions. From sustainability to community relations, leaders like María José Irarrázaval and Jimena Allende Vial are paving the way toward a more responsible and transparent production. Ximena Cáceres's insights from Agrícola Santa Lucía de Maxagro underscore concrete actions toward greater sustainability, including CO2 emissions reduction and community engagement. The increasing inclusion of women is driving a cultural shift in work practices and fostering more inclusive work environments.

As a farmers son, I could have written 100 video scripts about 'expectations' in farming and why so many of them are out-dated, archaic and quite frankly obsolete. After listening to a very impassioned talk at this years The Oxford Farming Conference (OFC) on the need for diversity, I settled on this idea: The expectations of women in farming. The script had to be trimmed down 4 times to make it fit as there were just SO many topics we could have touched on. I hope it resonates and goes some way in resetting the expectations of women in our great, but often outdated, industry. I will be forever indebted to Ellie Burgess for having the courage to star in this video, Clare Otridge for help with the research behind it, Leon Silavant 🎥for bringing the whole idea to life and of course Alli McEntyre Gaharan for giving me the freedom to run with the idea in the first place. The National Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy is set to transform the agricultural landscape by creating pathways for women to enter high-value crop and livestock value chains. It will enhance access to agricultural financing, information, and markets while promoting agricultural adaptation and climate-smart solutions. These empowering interventions are crucial for bridging the gender gap in agriculture. Let's champion land rights and work together to empower women in agriculture for a more equitable and sustainable future. #WEEPolicy #WEEPolicyDomestication #WeeliftKano #WeeliftKaduna #WeeliftLagos
