Talk about bucking the trend - Metagenomi have pulled off the best part of a $94M IPO without a drug in clinical trials! If you look at the recent IPO listings, it's been a few years since we saw lots of companies go public who were in early or preclinical testing so in times where the majority of funding and focus is on companies with a candidate in clinical trials or later, this is a pretty impressive achievement. The only other pre-clinical company to IPO this year is Fractyl Health but as they also have a marketed medical device, Metagenomi really stand out as an outlier. In case you haven't heard of them, Metagenomi are a gene editing startup spun out of research at the University of California, Berkeley and this offering will fund the development of genetic medicines for a variety of conditions, including hemophilia and transthyretin amyloidosis.
