With these numbers showing growth, there are things to consider. 1. These players are playing on the club level. At what point will we see collegiate Pickleball as a college sport? (Available for athletic recruiting and scholarship opportunities.) 2. How do we cultivate and grow Pickleball on the high school level? I look forward to seeing how we can impact youth through Pickleball.
One reason pickleball has seen sustained growth is the inclusion of younger players. A few weeks ago, DUPR released statistics on the growth of collegiate pickleball last year. Overall, they saw a 142 percent growth in the number of college participants. The number of players grew from 151 to 365. The number of schools competing more than doubled, going from 16 to 36. Not only did the number of players receive a bump, but the skill level of college competitors is also on the rise. The average DUPR of the Top 10 players rose from 4.765 to 5.549. With more colleges putting in courts and students adopting the game, it’s pretty safe to say these numbers will only be going up in 2024. This segment is proudly brought to you by The Dink Pickleball Newsletter.

Football Throw-in coach ⚽️ “The Long, Fast and Clever Throw-in Philosophy” | Part of 15 titles in international football | Keynote speaker
Great article about “Measurring Throw-in Success” by @StatsBomb … but I Think they come to the wrong conclusion! For me it’s about lack of vision in the football world… At Throw-ins all over the pitch you can deliver many more creative space creation solutions compared to corners and freekicks. A world class Long throw-in is more spectacular compared to a kick with the foot (that often is delivered with Low quality). If we start to use more positive words around Throw-ins maybe more people would start to see the magic… and beauty… of the two-handed throw. Throw-in improvement is one of the Low-hanging fruits to improve the quality and entertainment of the game we love.

When North Carolina State tipped off in the ACC tournament three weeks ago, the Wolfpack had a 17-14 record and an infinitesimal chance of making the NCAA tournament. But they ripped off five wins in five days to steal an automatic berth to March Madness. Then they went on a wild run even by the standards of an event known for insanity. Now they’re easily the most improbable Final Four team of the past decade. What were the odds of the Wolfpack getting this far? To find out, you can take the win probabilities for each of the past four games from the college-basketball statistical website kenpom.com, then multiply those percentages to quantify the rough likelihood of a Final Four run. N.C. State was a 1-in-88 long shot. But even that number doesn’t accurately convey how unexpected this Final Four romp has been. That’s because the Wolfpack really had to survive and advance nine times. The chance of that happening wasn’t 1 in 88. It was more like 1 in 23,512. To put that .004% probability in context, the National Weather Service says you’re more likely to get struck by lightning during your lifetime. How can you not love underdogs & March Madness! #statistics #marchmadness #underdogs https://lnkd.in/eYYfjg3E
This Final Four Team Isn’t a Long Shot. It’s a 23,512-to-1 Miracle.

Exciting News for New Yorkers and New Jersey Neighbors! Big news for pickleball enthusiasts in the Empire State – New York is gearing up to expand its pickleball courts! However, the catch is as big as the ambition. With a whopping 3,558 courts needed at a project cost of $124.5 million over the next 5-7 years, it's no small feat. That's almost 3 million square feet – equivalent to about 50 football fields. Comparatively, Texas is also joining the pickleball craze, requiring 2,527 courts at a project cost of $88.5 million. The Lone Star State may have more room to spare, but New York is stepping up despite its Northeastern space challenges. Property costs might be steep, but the love for pickleball knows no bounds.
