Simulation technology continues to improve and researchers are using various forms of simulators to measure the performance of military and law enforcement professionals. A study was conducted comparing the use of a military grade firearms simulator to a video game-based simulator. The researchers had two primary performance measures that they were concerned about. The first was the decision to shoot (or not) which they referred to as Lethal Force Decision Making (LFDM). The second was shooting accuracy. The authors found that the participants who shot the fastest had the highest hit rates and the highest false alarm rates. Participants who had higher marksmanship scores also were more accurate during the shoot/don’t shoot scenarios but made more shooting errors. ALERRT Executive Director Dr Pete Blair reviews the result of this study and the implications it may have on future law enforcement training. I'm all about simulation training for police and military populations. There are so many ways to apply it in various scenarios and gives numerous, low-impact, attempts. My one caveat is that you HAVE to train the mental perception and decision making deliberately and almost separately. The virtual training 100% can improve overall reaction time and accuracy, but the decision to pull the trigger is separate from the mechanics of pulling the trigger effectively. I love what I do, training the mind and body to work cohesively and in unison to perform at their absolute best, as consistently as possible. Because when there is a life on the other end of that weapon, there is no room for error. #virtualtraining #marksmanship #shooting #mentalskills #usarmy #performance #sportpsychology #sportscience #military #police #perception #error #simulation #ai #decisionmaking #leadership

The war against rats, 1924, involved a whole lot of violence: Snap traps, a lot of poison, and people armed rifles and billy clubs. Fast forward a century, and we're finally winning. Technology not only tracks their activity, but helps us predict it so we know when and how to intervene. Why go to war with a bolt-action rifle when 21st Century technology does it better? EverSmart Rodent is the weaponized drone of our age. (Photo: Library of Congress) Read the eBook: https://lnkd.in/gC5Rm6UM
