Is there any better place to be on a sunny Wednesday morning than at #CraftyFest :0) I rather think not and masses of thanks to the team at Crafty Counsel and in particular to Benjamin White and Toby Hornett for having me. It was a genuine pleasure to speak alongside Gauri Kasbekar-Shah, Philip Brett and Kyle Phillips and to hear their diverse perspectives as deal makers and revenue generators. Takeaways? I think perhaps my key one was to again see and hear how perceived divides within organisations can be bridged by #curiosity, #passion and a shared sense of #mission. As leaders, we could do a lot worse than nurturing those core concepts - regardless of discipline, industry or specialism.

On the surface, it looks like authentic leadership, but don’t forget, someone got paid to “lead your thoughts”. 🤔 When “thought leaders” are paid to endorse certain trends, perspectives, or solutions, are they truly independent voices? 🤔 Or are they part of a larger strategy to condition your thinking? While #paidthoughtleadership can bring valuable insights, it's important to recognize where these “ideas” are coming from, who paid for them, and how factual they are. Always watch the quiet ones. The deep thinking ones vs the quick to contribute. Everyone gets there in different ways and a different pace and you want a mix on your team. It’s hard to retrain yourself not to just value the quickly clever ones. I was listening to Ana Duvernay’s Masterclass on Reframing (who better than a brilliant director to teach that). She was talking about how she works intentionally to create spaces to get the best from all….(and I’m paraphrasing) “The best ideas are often locked in the heads, minds and hearts of the quiet people - so create space that is more circular to gain knowledge and share ideas” Ask questions. Show you don’t know it all. Make it ok to change your mind as new facts emerge. Ask more questions. Figure out how to unlock them. It may not be on the spot with a big group…so make time for the quiet ones. They may be your deepest thinkers. #leadership #humanresources #neurodiversity #No4thFloor
