Enabling Public & Private sector organisations to build stronger connections with their local communities
Community engagement around big infrastructure projects 🚀 Although these projects are often sanctioned by national governments that override local objections, their local impacts are huge and need to be addressed, communicated and mitigated. 🚄Euston Overstation: This major project is a "once in a generation opportunity to transform Euston into much more than a station." With the community's help, it is our ambition to create a thriving neighbourhood that welcomes everyone. 🔗https://hubs.ly/Q02f3XjN0 🌊Ports of Jersey Harbour Masterplan: The plans will ensure the port’s long-term viability, improve customer experience, create new commercial opportunities, and realise the area’s potential as a leisure, cultural and tourism destination. The Commonplace was created to share key news updates so locals were informed every step of the way. 🔗https://hubs.ly/Q02f3XkK0 🚗 Highways England: Highways England used Commonplace to engage people around new motorway projects all across the country - projects that needed periodic road closures and local diversions so work could be done. In order to help people avoid the headache of discovering a road closure on the way to work or suddenly finding motorway traffic diverted to their local roads, they sent regular emails to all their news subscribers. 🔗 https://hubs.ly/Q02f3WHH0 💨Hornsea 4 feedback: The latest proposals for Hornsea Four offshore wind farm can all be located here! Not only were all updates easily accessible but local people could even vote on the colours and finishes of the Hornsea Four onshore substation. 🔗 https://hubs.ly/Q02f3Wn30 And if you're interested in seeing how you can get more people informed about your next infrastructure project, I'm always happy to help... https://hubs.ly/Q02f3_770 #engagement #communityengagement #engage #digitalengagement #digital

An intriguing current case of the law of unintended consequences: In Sydney, Australia a new highway interchange or "spaghetti junction" went into operation on November 19. Its purported goal was to facilitate the flow of vehicles from the suburbs towards the city center. Yet due to some unresolved issues in how this new stretch of road is connected to the existing road network, the opposite has happened, and now more congestion and longer commuting times are the temporary outcomes of something that was touted as a solution to "one of Sydney’s enduring traffic bottlenecks". Rozelle Interchange was meant to ease congestion on Sydney roads. So what went wrong? Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) https://lnkd.in/eFiQJ9UF Rozelle interchange: work under way on spaghetti junction critics have labelled ‘a tunnel to a traffic jam’ The Guardian https://lnkd.in/eVvNXS3m Urgent construction on Rozelle Interchange’s new lane begins news.com.au https://lnkd.in/eQw6VgCM

Enjoyed speaking to ITV yesterday about the situation in Goxhill, near the port of Immingham: a lack of investment in our road network creates situations where both residents and businesses lose out. Drivers have to use village roads that are potentially unsafe for HGVs, and residents have to deal with the congestion that follows. This is what happens when real term spending for local authorities falls by 50% over the last ten years. To create safe communities and a strong road haulage sector, we need a highways network that meets the needs of a modern supply chain.
We call for investment in local roads to make journeys more efficient after reports of congestion in #Goxhill, North Lincolnshire. There’s been an increased need for HGV trips locally but that’s not yet been matched with a similar level in highways investment and new roads, James Barwise told ITV. Congestion costs £30bn a year. We’re ready to work with local authorities and the Government to ensure that roads are fit for purpose to deliver economic growth. #RHAInfrastructure

See below from the "Township of Langley's Website". The Township of Langley is undertaking a corridor planning process for 200 Street to define a future vision for this emerging transit-oriented corridor. We want to develop the vision with your input and feedback. See below written on the Township of Langley's Website The 200 Street Corridor is designated for more intensive transit-oriented development in both municipal and regional land use plans. It is envisioned that the 200 Street Corridor would be served by Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) over the shorter term, with the potential for Light Rail Transit (LRT) or SkyTrain service at some future date. The goal of 200 Street 2040 is to establish a vision for the 200 Street Corridor as a sustainable transit-oriented destination and to establish corridor-level policies and guidelines to guide the realization of that vision over the next 20 years. The 200 Street corridor stretches 800 meters on either side of 200 Street, from the Trans-Canada Highway south to 68 Avenue, for 4.5 kilometers as shown on the map below. #townshipoflangley #200streetcorridor #200street2040 #tanamcnicolrealtor

The Island has tried buses over and over and over. We've all heard the idiom that "The definition of crazy is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results!" right? It applies here on the island. The railway operates on it's own Right-of-Way, meaning it's immune to traffic congestion, and with modern trains being much more comfortable, accessible, and reliable, they represent a much more desirable service to offer that takes traffic off the highways 1 to 1 for everyone that would use it. With over 720,000 people in it's catchment, I dare say it would be used extensively! We can keep trying to hammer buses through congestion like a child that can't see the forest for the trees, or we can decongest traffic by using the railway that has served Vancouver Island without any requirement for government investment over the last 137 years! With 4 working groups working on each section of the corridor from Victoria to Langford, Langford to Parksville, Parksville to Courtenay, and Parksville to Port Alberni, and the Island Corridor Foundation hiring a Corridor Project Manager, have we finally broken out of the crazy thought that a bus-only transit network can help fix the congestion on our highways? Make it so, sign on with over 10,300 others to Restore Island Rail. https://chng.it/HTPJ25CqPr

Whatever your views, please, lay down your swords, your pen or your keyboard, and get involved This issue is beyond inactivity any further and the fact we are still having this debate so many years on is no longer acceptable. The policy vacuum regarding the bridge and the northern bypass has to end In business, you mitigate against any single point of failure. You address through analysis where your weak spots are, and you do something about it….. our sub standard infrastructure, most evidentially the a14 and Orwell bridge reliance holds Suffolk, AND THE UK back. No questions about that whatsoever. So action is required as doing nothing has never been a solution So, join in the discussion with Paul below and let’s finally get this critical issue the attention it so desperately needs and deserves
The current #policy vacuum regarding both the #OrwellBridge and the #roads network around #Ipswich needs to be addressed and quickly. Which is what Suffolk Chamber of Commerce's Orwell Bridge Research Group will try to do. This Group aims to kickstart purposeful discussions and solutions about the Bridge and the wider strategic roads by researching the impact on the jobs and investment plans of firms especially in the crucial #ports, #logistics, #haulage and associated sectors under the current do-nothing approach. This could be the wake-up call for Suffolk County Council, National Highways, Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom etc. to finally take this matter seriously as being of critical national importance. Please let me know if you'd like to be involved in anonymously sharing your insights. Liz Nice Amanda Ankin John Dugmore Stephen Britt Miles Vartan Ashley Shorey-Mills

Valley Transportation Authority Policy Advisory Committee- VTA is developing and implementing a Transit-Oriented Communities Program pursuant to the Board-adopted Transit-Oriented Communities Policy and FY24-25 Budget authorization. This new program seeks to maximize mixed-use and mixed-income equitable Transit-Oriented Development projects on both public and private sites around VTA transit stations and high capacity transit corridors. #HiltonForCouncil #Gilroy #GilroyBPAC #HiltonForGilroy #GilMtg #DowntownGilroy https://lnkd.in/gReJ3Z3Z The program is focused on partnerships to support local public agencies and other stakeholders involved in the creation of Transit-Oriented Communities. A new Transit-Oriented Communities Grant in the amount of $750,000 will provide a key funding opportunity to support local public agencies, property owners, community organizations, and other diverse Transit-Oriented Communities stakeholders working to further Transit-Oriented Communities along high-capacity transit corridors and stations in Santa Clara County. Overall, the Transit-Oriented Communities Program and the implementation of the VTA Transit Oriented Communities Grant would advance all three business lines in VTA’s Strategic Plan: (1) Faster, Frequent, Reliable Transit: integrating land use and transit steers growth to transit corridors, and increased people-throughput on corridors, leads to service improvements; (2) Delivering Projects and Programs and (3) Transportation System Management: Transit-Oriented Communities advance opportunities for multimodal, Complete Streets, and Transit-First projects, and more managed travel within communities, growing ridership, supporting shorter trips and more sustainable forms of transportation, and decreased Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) and Greenhouse Gases (GHG). Last year the VTA PAC recommended approval of the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan and I’m thankful that the full Board recently supported this too.
