The $1.1B Aquatic Invasive Species Barrier in the Joliet Regional Port District area is officially out of the starting blocks with the signing of the project partnership agreement. The agreement signed this week allows $274 million in federal funding and $114 in state funding to be used for the construction of the first three phases of the project. Almost all of the federal appropriation comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Joliet Regional Port District was created in 1957, it has 36 terminals, and is a Top 50 U.S. Port based on freight tonnage, and intersects with CenterPoint, the largest inland port complex in North America. It was listed and ranked as a U.S. Port in 2020 as part of the Corn Belt Ports Initiative. This is a project of international significance and does strike a complex, workable balance between use of, and access to our inland ports on the Illinois Waterway and Great Lakes, and reducing the serious risks of expanding the territory of aquatic invasive species using the latest and most modern of technologies. From 11,000’ elevation ⛰️mines to front range lowlands…..🌾 Rocky Mountain Reclamation has already placed over 250 acres of #native #wetland seeding this fall. These projects are wetland banks to assist DOTs and other state agencies offset wetland takes for development and roadways. Wetland seeding requires a lot of knowledge and experience. Why? 🌱Wetland seeds are not your normal seed. 🌱 Seed size! A common wetland species Torrey’s rush can have between 12,000,000 and 25,000,000 seeds per pound. If you plant the seed too deep, then it will never germinate. If you leave the tiny seed unprotected on the soil surface, then it will blow away. Once again…the importance of mulching and crimping!

The plow brought forth a fertile might, Transforming land from dusk to light, Where once the wilderness held sway, Now golden crops began to sway. A world awakened, rich and green, With bounty like none had seen, For human hands and nature’s blend, In partnership, their strengths did lend. The harvests grew, the barns did fill, With grain and fruit from valley and hill, The plow had paved a future bright, Of sustenance and shared delight. Communities began to grow, In places where the seeds did sow, Villages thrived, with hearths aglow, Fed by the land, the plow's bestow. Trade routes blossomed, markets bloomed, With goods exchanged, the world consumed, A network vast, of give and take, A tapestry of human make. The plow, a symbol of our reach, Of earth's embrace, of lessons teach, That through our toil, and with respect, We shape our world, we can connect. From ancient fields to modern farms, The plow's invention held in arms, Enabling life, sustaining dreams, A force within the river’s streams.
