We are proud to call Austin Buckner our VolunCheer of the Month! In May, an EF4 tornado struck Greenfield, Iowa, killing five people. The tornado was the strongest EF4 to hit Iowa in over a decade. It devastated the community streets with piles of debris, broken trees, and demolished cars, sadly leaving half of the town damaged. Austin took matters into his own hands to help victims in his community who were affected by the tornado. With the help of his friends, this local superhero dedicated his time to help clear away the rubble, debris, and damage from nearby homes in the community. Congratulations, Austin, and thank you for being a true neighborhood hero! #SGWSGivesBack

Tornado Twisters Tore Through Indiana Towns! This headline might sound like something out of a disaster movie, but for residents of Winchester, Selma, and Madison, Indiana, it's a terrifying reality. Powerful tornadoes ripped through these communities on Thursday evening, leaving a path of destruction in their wake. Randolph and Delaware Counties Bear the Brunt According to the Indiana Emergency Management Agency, Randolph and Delaware Counties were hit the hardest. Winchester, in Randolph County, and Selma, just east of Muncie in Delaware County, witnessed some of the most severe damage. As of Friday morning, officials reported at least 22 homes likely destroyed in Winchester, with over 100 structures sustaining damage. Selma, a town of about 740 people, might have seen damage to as many as half of its buildings! A Terrifying Night for Residents Imagine the fear. Residents described hunkering down in closets and basements as the storms raged. One resident, interviewed by local news, said, "I've never heard a sound like that before. I don't want to hear it again." Thankfully, despite the widespread damage, reports indicate mostly minor injuries. Recovery Efforts Underway The resilience of the human spirit is on display in Indiana. In the aftermath of the storm, first responders have been praised by Governor Eric Holcomb for their tireless efforts. Search and rescue teams are combing through the debris, and cleanup has begun. The National Guard has also been activated to assist with the recovery. Uncertainties Remain While initial assessments are underway, the full extent of the damage is still being determined. Authorities are working to locate displaced residents and ensure their safety. Shelters have been opened to provide food and a safe place to stay. Communities Come Together In the face of tragedy, communities often come together. This is no different in Indiana. Local organizations and volunteers are mobilizing to help with the cleanup and support those affected. Donations of food, clothing, and other essential supplies are being collected for those who have lost their homes and belongings. The Road to Recovery The road to recovery for these Indiana communities will be long. Rebuilding homes and businesses, as well as the emotional toll of such a disaster, will take time. However, the outpouring of support from across the state and beyond demonstrates the strength and compassion of the American spirit.
