Building Together: A Solid Foundation for Orphan Care The heart of any successful endeavour lies in a shared understanding. During a recent gathering (caregiver orientation) with the wonderful caregivers from our new church partner, we (Forgotten Voices International) didn't just discuss expectations – we embarked on a collaborative journey. Instead of burdening them with pre-determined goals, we explored together: 👉 What success looks like for our 5-year orphan care ministry partnership. 👉 How each member can contribute their unique talents and perspectives. 👉 Open communication about potential roadblocks and how we can navigate them as a team. By engaging in this dialogue, we fostered a strong foundation built not just on expectations, but on mutual respect, clear communication, and a shared vision. We were reminded of the profound truth: failure or missteps don't have to define us. When we work together, we can learn from them and adapt our approach, ensuring the well-being of the children we serve remains our collective priority. This partnership with our new church family promises to be an incredible journey, and we're excited to see what we can achieve together! #Forgottenvoicesinternational #Orphancare #Caregiverorientation #DemonstratingtheloveofGod

When is enough, enough? Former Chiefs cheerleader dies after birth from sepsis. When is enough, enough? How many more stories do we have to read of another Black woman dying in childbirth before we take decisive action? It's time to confront the systemic issues causing these tragic outcomes. Access to quality healthcare, addressing racial disparities in maternal care, and ensuring medical professionals are equipped to handle complications are urgent steps we must take. Every life lost is one too many. Let's turn these heartbreaking stories into catalysts for change. #MaternalHealth #HealthEquity #RacialDisparities #PublicHealthActionNow

"To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors." – Tia Walker. Caring for each other is fundamental across all ages for several reasons: ➡️Different stages of life come with different physical needs and challenges. Young children need help with basic tasks, adults might need support during illness or after surgeries, and older adults often require assistance with daily activities. ⏩️By caring, we learn from each other as children learn from adults, adults can learn from the experiences of the elderly, and the elderly can stay engaged and mentally active by interacting with younger generations. ▶️The way we take care of each other leaves a lasting impact on future generations; it sets an example and establishes the values that shape the behavior of younger generations. Truth is that as a working mother, even with a supportive partner, some days are hard. Our daughter is my number one priority, we are blessed to have her, but I like to work so I feel guilty. That means compromise. When things don’t work to plan, it can trigger insecurities. Not going to plan includes everything from illness to forgetting curriculum day or a breakfast meeting / after-hours catch-up (that I know I should go to). It means sometimes the floor doesn’t always get vacuumed and I must breathe deeply when somebody says something insensitive. Anecdotes about the time someone said, “Is she your granddaughter” (we’re older parents) or exclaimed “I don’t know how you work full-time” are now my go-to party jokes. But we’re good, we're in a privileged position where we can choose our lifestyle. Others can’t. That’s why I am sharing this video today. I am so grateful to the Gidget Foundation Australia (no affiliation) for the work that they do. The more we can do to highlight the need for and importance of non-judgment, the better we’ll all be. Anyone can struggle, get stressed or burned out. It doesn’t matter your lifestyle - you can be a parent or a caregiver; single or married - and it’s not just because you are unlucky. It’s not because you love less. Negative judgement is not new. Even my parents had to overcome “helpful” commentary because they were young. We can all do better in support first, questions second. We can call in and be there for someone in need. So please put Wednesday 19 June into your diary. This #GidgetGivingDay, if you can, please donate to support expectant and new parents in need.

What makes our birthparent support groups different? A lot. We don’t work in the adoption industry, for starters, making us a truly neutral space in which to heal. We’ve been providing support for birthparents for nearly 25 years, so we have a long, proven track record of being the safe neutral space birthparents need in order to heal, and thrive. And the help and support we offer is free to birthparents, of course. That’s a given. We also aren’t just running one support call a month, because that model can be really difficult for people to access regularly. Instead we have 6 calls a month, some themed, some just open conversation, and one dedicated to birthparents navigating closed or in-reunion adoptions. And best of all, our BirthmomsConnect calls are run by birthmothers, for birthmothers. Our call moderators are the same incredible birthparents who facilitate our birthmom retreats. Not only do they have the lived experience necessary to walk with you, but they are truly some of the kindest, smartest, and funniest people you’ll ever meet, and their support for other birthparents is incredible. Birthmom support groups are a kind of self-care: you don't have to be a client of ours to join, they are also via Zoom, so you can log in from anywhere, and you don't have to give your last name - or even turn your camera on - to join us. Make a plan to find the healing community you deserve, surrounded by other birthmoms who have walked in your shoes. Registration and info: https://lnkd.in/g8W7rc_G #birthmothersaremothers
