It's very difficult to become if you are not following anything. You become what you follow. You need to look at something and you fix your eyes on it and you learn from it. In the process of learning you will start to become what you are following. This is very important when it comes to choosing mentors. You have to investigate, can you follow this person? What are their values? What do they teach? As we begin a brand new year and season, it's time to reflect and refocus. Who are you following? Who is your mentor?

As we celebrate National Mentoring Month, let's recognize the powerful influence mentors have on shaping futures. Their guidance provides knowledge and instills confidence, empowering individuals to navigate challenges and reach new heights. For potential mentees, this is a great opportunity to connect with a mentor who can offer you insight, advice, opportunity – and help you navigate the next stage/s of your career. This is what some of our Mentees from Cohort 1 had to say: "This has led me to re-evaluate my career aspirations regarding leadership positions." "It gave me the confidence to go and speak to other professionals and build my network." Eligibility criteria:  This mentoring program is specifically designed for women with demonstrated leadership potential -- that is, women who have had at least 8 years of work experience and/or had some experience with, or, are new to, managing teams or leading departments as a solo contributor.  A nominal commitment fee of SGD 85 to be paid by all selected mentees for the entire program. Preparation will determine your performance. The amount of preparation that goes into an event like Mentorship 101 is unimaginable. Preparing enough will ensure that you do well. If you ask Priscilla Pinkrah-Bekoe, she will tell you that we started planning for this year's Mentorship 101 in September 2023. That was about 7 months of stressing my Chief of Staff and other committee members. At MAKE-A-CHILD-SMILE FOUNDATION (MACSF), we never compromise on excellence and prepare for the worst case scenarios. If a speaker is unable to make it unexpectedly, who is able to step in and speak? Thankfully, we haven't had to execute our plans for the worst case scenarios largely because of the amount of preparation that goes into our projects. Fun fact: Preparation for the 2025 edition of Mentorship 101 started on 27th March 2024, when I revealed the theme to my madam Priscilla Pinkrah-Bekoe. Morale of today's story? Plan early, Prepare beyond adequately, Perform excellently.
